LA TO CELEBRATE PROP 8 DECISION TODAY & TONIGHT!

Gay and lesbian Angelenos and their supporters are ecstatic over the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling Wednesday that killed Prop 8, California's same-sex marriage ban.
“A grievous wrong has finally been righted," Lorri Jean, CEO of the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, said in a statement. "Justice has prevailed and the freedom to marry for California’s same-sex couples has been restored. Now no one can take it from us!"
Angelenos will rally in celebration of the decision at 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood. As a result,San Vicente Blvd will be closed between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard from noon to 11 p.m., according to the West Hollywood Sheriff's station.
The Supreme Court decision makes California the 13th U.S. state where same-sex couples can marry. One Angeleno tweeted a message to those states that still hadn't granted equal marriage rights:
"As a Californian, I'd like to make a deal with the Red States: You give us your gays, and we'll give you everyone who voted for Prop 8."

THE MORMON CHURCH NO LONGER OPPOSES GAY MARRIAGE?!

Last month, hundreds of boisterous protesters converged in Washington, DC, as the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Hollingsworth v. Perry, the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of California's anti-gay marriage initiative, Proposition 8. Faith-based groups were on prominent display: the Methodists supporting marriage equality, the Westboro Baptists suggesting (per usual) that "God hates fags," the Catholics both for and against gay marriage, clergy of all stripes.
But one group that wasn't there in any official capacity was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—a.k.a. the Mormons—which perhaps more than any other religious group was responsible for getting Prop. 8 passed in the first place.
In the five years since the LDS church sent busloads of the faithful to California to canvass neighborhoods, and contributed more than $20 million via its members to support the initiative, it has all but dropped the rope in the public policy tug of war over marriage equality. The change stems from an even more remarkable if somewhat invisible transformation happening within the church, prompted by the ugly fight over Prop. 8 and the ensuing backlash from the flock.
Although the LDS's prophet hasn't described a holy revelation directing a revision in church doctrine on same-sex marriage or gay rights in general, the church has shown a rare capacity for introspection and humane cultural change unusual for a large conservative religious organization.

Featuring an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jane Lynch,

and directed by acclaimed actor and director Rob Reiner.
It is a powerful account of the case filed by the American Federation for Equal Rights (AFER ) in the U.S. District Court in 2010 to overturn Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that eliminated the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California.
Framed around the trial's historic closing arguments in June 2010, 8 provides an intimate look what unfolded when the issue of same-sex marriage was on trial.

PROP 8 IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

california finally stepped up to the plate and announced the passage of PROP 8 as unconstitutional.

this is a landmark/groundbreaking moment in history for gay, lesbian's and all people that believe in civil rights~
A federal appeals court Tuesday struck down California's ban on same-sex marriage, clearing the way for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on gay marriage as early as next year.
The 2-1 decision by a panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that limited marriage to one man and one woman, violated the U.S. Constitution. The architects of Prop. 8 have vowed to appeal.
The ruling was narrow and likely to be limited to California.

Nearly one and a half years since Federal District Court Judge Vaughn Walker declared Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional in the landmark Perry v. Brown case, the 9th US District Circuit Court of Appeals finally announced this morning that they will be upholding Judge Walker's decision: PROPOSITION H8 IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

“Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California,” the court said.
The ruling upheld a decision by retired Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who struck down the ballot measure in 2010 after holding an unprecedented trial on the nature of sexual orientation and the history of marriage.
In a separate decision,  the appeals court refused to invalidate Walker’s ruling on the grounds that he should have disclosed he was in a long term same-sex relationship.  Walker, a Republican appointee who is openly gay, said after his ruling  that he had been in a relationship with another man for 10 years. He has never said whether he and partner wished to marry.

PROP 8 OVERTURNED ARTICLE FROM LAST YEAR GOES VIRAL

this morning i noticed a facebook posting from a girl named "marie" in atlanta-
PROP 8 OVERTURNED- GAY MARRIAGE IS LEAGAL IN CA.
i became very excited and scrambled to post asap. once i  posted i notice that they referred to "gov Schwarzenegger" and all the comments were 1 year old.. then i fully read the article and realized it was over a year old!.. i contacted "marie" and told her this info and to please remove. within that brief 5 mins, "marie's" posted had been reposted 50 times and counting!
"marie" was a stubborn anna, (and not that bright)  i could not convince her the article was outdated... we went back & forth for another 15 minutes until i finally sent her the the dates of the article line for line.
finally i convinced her to remove. once she did, she was pissed off because she lost the entire thread.
"marie" then began posting that i had "bullied" her!
since then there have been so many repostings the article has become viral.

Come on, guys -- this is how rumors get started!
A Huffington Post article from August 2010 (and updated in May 2011) was littered all over Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and the rest of the Internet this morning. "Prop 8 OVERTURNED: Gay Marriage Ban Struck Down In California," reads the headline. Nope.Hard to say who was the instigating drunkard to first stumble across the piece and blast its (very dated) information to his/her entire social network, but since then, the piece has racked up thousands more shares. It currently holds HuffPost's No. 1 slot in "Hot on Facebook."
