RICK CASTRO: DIARY- 4/17/2020

So This Is How The World Will End: by Rick Castro 4/17/2020

I couldn’t sleep at all last night… isn’t that a song?
I need to remind myself, what’s your fuckin hurry? There is no agenda. The harshness of plague life is a day by day way of existence. With that in mind I decided to watch the sunrise. When was the last time any of you had the luxury to do that? I must say, she is magnificent. No artist can do justice to the perfectly spectacular beauty of nature. Van Gogh, Monet, Gainsborough all made beautiful re-creations, but makes ever clear, re-creation, imitation, virtual, will never, ever match original.

Today I had a virtual chat on Zoom with my longtime buddy Corley. Now that I think of it we’ve never chatted on the phone.
I personally have come to hate talking on the phone. it takes so much time. I’d much rather chat in person. I text or IM just for pertinent info, then arrange to meet. I remember back in jr. high school, I would spend all day, in between classes and lunch time with my first fag-hag, (is this now considered politically incorrect?) Betty Fenar. When I would get home, right after dinner she would call me and we would talk on the phone until it was time for bed. My father would say, “Jesus christ! you just  saw her at school!”. Zoom is the new AT&T. I despise AT&T, so let’s hope Zoom doesn’t become the new corporate asshole.

I  also created my third virtual photoshoot. As you may or may not know, I am a longtime photographer. My focus has been fetish, black & white, film then digital. Now that we’re in a post-realtime world, I’ve taken the obvious step by creating virtual photo shoots.
I’m very pleased with the results. The quality is lacking, as i’m using screen shots once again on Zoom, but what’s low in quality is made up in mood. I’ve like the look of 3rd, 4th, 5th generation imagery like Xerox. I was an early zine creator way back to 1990. For me virtual shoots are the xerox/zines of now. As far as Zoom, I wish I had $ to invest. Zoom is the Apple of now. I remember when you could purchase Apple stock for $7.95 a share. Last year it hit $375 a share.
My first virtual shoot was way back in March, ( my how time flies) with the subject Leopold & Lobe; lovers & superiority killers of the1920s. I was very pleased with the results. The images ran in Homosurrealism Magazine. you can view them- HERE-

My second shoot was with this sweet, sexy boy, Alejandro Ruiz in Phoenix, Arizona. The theme for this was open, as in being open,
so I created a shoot called VIRTUAL OPENING. They will be published in the next issue of Mascular Magazine
Today my shoot was with a sensual young dancer Bo, in the Catskills, NY. The theme was loosely Nijinsky. These will be in the next issue of Homosurrealism Magazine.

All in all my day was filled with self-isolated, virtual solitaire and re-creating what once was reality in the high desert at Bee’s cabin.

So this is how the world will end.
