 No other garment in the history of fashion has inspired as much ire, fascination or conversation as the corset.  Developed and changed over hundreds of years and through many cultures, the corset supposedly left mainstream fashion around World War I, but it never left our consciousness.  The corset saw the light of day as it was relegated to historical re-enactments and theatre/productions.  To a few, it went underground, darkly and sexually, as it became the very thing revered and desired.  As a fetish, corsetry was transformed into modern, or contemporary, corsetry, eschewing all myths of health concerns and the politics of female oppression.  
     Yes, people still wear corsets in this new millennia.  Yes, men wear them.  As a vessel, the corset holds our deep fantasies and desires.  As boned armor, it fortifies and liberates.
