420~ IS OVER

closing party for 420~ CANNABIS AS ART, was insane.....
if you don't believe me- ask my neighbors. las vegas newbie- KENT CLARK wore the ceremonial cannabis costume created by $EX ARTISTE, including the peyote ritual fan. i christened kent the MJ GOD and placed him in front of ANTEBELLUM on the sidewalk of las palmas ave. boy did he stop traffic. not only was the MJ GOD resplendent in his costume, he also has a very loud voice.... who would've thought.... he was so low-key when we met.

the MJ god was later joined by legalize cannabis guru RICHARD EASTMAN, who had been having the time of his life, whipping up a batch of, "special" brownies. this combined with our, "special" tea really got the 420 crowd into a state of frenzy.
next thing i knew richard eastman was on a bullhorn, (where did he get this?) running up & down las palmas ave inviting everyone and anyone to the party.. this was even too much for my doorman- BEN who just threw his hands up in surrender. then NICKKI jumped into the gallery window and sang an off-the-cuff Acappella version of "i'm burning up for your love."

in the meantime, richard eastman talked marco morente into making him a pair of marijuana print stretch pants. clayton webster from cerre was more than happy to try them on, and then would not give them back.. afterwards angelinie from cavern put on MJ GOD'S costume and was loving the good vibes.

DINNER FOR TWO

THIS IS A TRUE STORY- A Russian court has convicted two men of murdering and eating a 16-year-old schoolgirl in January.
The St. Petersburg City Court says it sentenced a 21-year-old Goth-rock musician to 19 years in a maximum-security prison.

(this movie is NOT a true story)

It says his 20-year-old accomplice was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum-security prison.
The court says in a statement released Wednesday that the musician lured his victim to his apartment building, where he and his friend drowned her in a bathtub and cooked parts of her body in an oven.

The men pleaded not guilty, and in earlier testimony they said they had killed the woman because they "were hungry."

R E V E A L E D
The Tradition of Male Homoerotic Art

May 12 - May 29, 2010

OPENING RECEPTION
May 11 (Tues)
6pm - 8pm

(George Platt Lynes, Male Nude (Bill Harris), 1945.Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction.

Robert Mapplethorpe's frank depiction of gay male sexuality both fascinated and shocked viewers when his retrospective exhibition, The Perfect Moment, opened around the U.S. from 1989 to 1990. In the twenty years since then, Mapplethorpe's renown has grown, but his art often elicits the same ambivalent response today. Yet, even Mapplethorpe's most notorious photography shares the same homoerotic intent as the artwork of one of the most revered masters of Western Art, Michelangelo, and of many others.

This exhibition, Revealed: The Tradition of Male Homoerotic Art, not only shows the similarities between Michelangelo and Mapplethorpe; it also asserts an artistic tradition of male homoerotic intent by gathering images of same sex desire that evolved over time from something secretive, suppressed, and suggested into something public, accessible, and explicit.

These paraphrased paragraphs from the curator's essay explain the aim of the exhibition, which first opened at the Central Connecticut State University Art Gallery in New Britain, Connecticut, on March 18, 2010. This landmark exhibition, which offered one of the broadest historical surveys of male homoerotic art ever presented at a public educational institution, now moves on to the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation in New York City.

The viewer experiences a tour de force survey of the homo-sensual, homo-erotic, and homo-sexual male figure, spanning over a hundred years, from the late nineteenth century to the present day. Robert Mapplethorpe's provocative work from the late 1970s faces the exquisite and elegant photography of George Platt Lynes from the 1940s and 50s, which is also prominently featured in the show. The rarely seen Sex Parts (1978) by Andy Warhol, of Pop Art fame, mingle with homoerotic artwork by early 20th century masters, including Marsden Hartley, Charles Demuth, Paul Cadmus, Jared French, Pavel Tchelitchew, and Andrey Avinoff, as well as the campy but skillful drawings of Tom of Finland. Artists who openly explored gay identity in the era from Stonewall to AIDS include James Bidgood, Arthur Tress, Don Herron, Duane Michals, Paul Blanca, Mark Morrisroe, and Keith Haring. Robert Rauschenberg, who also treated homosexual themes in this era but in a much more subtle way, is represented by a photographic print of his one time lover, Jasper Johns (Ruminations series). Elsewhere, the vintage photographs of Von Gloeden and Plüschow; the classic photography of Horst P. Horst, Hoyningen-Huene, and Minor White; and the beefcake photography of Al Urban, Bruce of L.A., and Bob Mizer, reveal the inspiration and roots for artists such as Stanley Stellar, Herb Ritts, and the young 21st century contributor Mikel Marton, whose work indicates an innovative new direction for homoerotic art. Finally, fetish meets fashion with Rick Castro and advertising embraces homosexuality with David LaChapelle, both representing a visual culture that extends beyond the traditional confines of the "History of Fine Art."

(RICK CASTRO. Tony Ward as Biker Babe, 1997. Antebellum Gallery, Hollywood, © Rick Castro)

While the imagery in this exhibition mostly offers a celebration of the sensual male nude and homoerotic expression, a thoughtful and startling art installation by curator Robert Diamond takes us beyond the images and wall text and reminds us of one the exhibition's political undercurrents: a history of suppression and secrecy shaped the development of homoerotic art, and homophobia continues to affect the creative and artistic output of gay artists, as well as their personal lives. It reminds us of the importance of this exhibition, which seek to break no new ground academically but puts some thirty years of earnest gay art scholarship into mainstream consciousness. Although this is, in some ways, a new era for the representation of gay people in the arts, this exhibition defies the unwillingness at an institutional level to study and showcase gay history or to acknowledge gay presence in visual culture.

Curator Robert Diamond, who admitted that organizing this exhibition was a journey of "defying the odds," concludes his official statement with these words: "If this exhibition reveals more parts of the male anatomy than are usually seen in public exhibitions, it also reveals a need for recognition of and freedom of expression for homosexual artists. I hope the celebratory nature of this exhibition offers much to savor and to reflect on long after leaving the exhibition space."

Revealed: The Tradition of Male Homoerotic Art runs from May 12 to May 29, 2010. The opening reception takes place on Tuesday, May 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. All events are free. Regular gallery hours are 12 noon to 6 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.

ABOUT THE LESLIE/LOHMAN GAY ART FOUNDATION
Described by Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times art critic Holland Cotter as "...a thoroughly nonmainstream pearl beyond price," the LESLIE/LOHMAN GAY ART FOUNDATION (LLGAF) is a non-profit foundation established to provide an outlet for artwork that is unambiguously gay and which is often denied access to mainstream venues. LLGAF also provides special support for emerging and underrepresented artists through The ARCHIVE (a quarterly art journal) and a permanent collection of more than 3,000 works, including pieces by artists Duncan Grant, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Jean Cocteau and Robert Mapplethorpe. BLAME AMERICA

AUTHORITIES SAY SLAYING THAT SPARKED OUTCRY OVER BORDER SECURITY WAS NOT RANDOM
Focus in Krentz killing on suspect in US

Earlier versions of this news story referred to the possible suspect in the Krentz killing investigation as American. The story — as originally reported — said the suspect is believed to be in the United States. It was changed to 'American' in the editing process. To be clear, the suspect is believed to be in the US. The suspect's nationality is unknown.
The killing of a Southern Arizona rancher that sparked an outcry to secure the border was not random, and investigators are focusing on a suspect in the United States, the Arizona Daily Star has learned.
High-ranking government officials with credible information spoke to the Star, citing a desire to quell the fury over illegal immigration and drug smuggling set off by the shooting death of longtime rancher Robert Krentz on March 27.
They said Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever is investigating a person in the United States, not in Mexico, in connection with the shooting.

EAT ME- HUMAN BREAD

Human Bread at the Human Bakery

A long way off the beaten track and down a long metal driveway, you'll find yourself inside a dark room where realistic-looking "human body parts" are stacked on shelves and hanging on meat hooks. The place looks like a mortuary, but in fact, it's a family-run bakery with a difference.

What appears to be putrefying body parts are the bread sculptures of 28-year-old art student Kittiwat Unarrom from Potharam, Thailand.

"Of course, people were shocked and thought that I was mad when they saw the works. But once they knew the idea behind it, they understood and became interested in the work itself, instead of thinking that I am crazy," said the fine arts masters degree student.

As an undergraduate art student, Kittiwat started painting portraits. He then moved to mixed media and finally dough - a natural medium for him since his family runs a bakery.

Along with edible human heads crafted from dough, chocolate, raisins and cashews, Kittiwat makes human torsos, arms and feet.

He now is receiving regular orders from the curious and from pranksters who want to surprise their friends or colleagues. However, I'm not too sure how your beloved would feel opening the fridge to find one of these inside.

By the end of the year, Kittiwat's confectionary slaughterhouse will go on display at Bangkok's Silpakorn University. It's his final dissertation, and he hopes it will secure him a Master of Arts degree.

"When people see the bread, they don't want to eat it. But when they taste it, it's just normal bread," he said. "The lesson is 'don't judge just by outer appearances."

JAN BREWER

HERE NOW IS THE PROFILE OF JAN BREWER~ GOVERNOR OF ARIZONA, WHO HAS SIGNED THE MOST RACIST BILL IN RECENT HISTORY,

Jan Brewer
22nd Governor of Arizona
Assumed office
January 21, 2009
Born-September 26, 1944 (age 65)
Hollywood, California
Political party- Republican
Spouse John Brewer
Residence Glendale, Arizona
Alma mater Glendale Community College
Religion Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod

Janice Kay "Jan" Brewer (born September 26, 1944) is the 22nd and current Governor of the U.S. state of Arizona and is a Republican. Jan Brewer automatically became governor of Arizona as part of the line of succession as determined by the Arizona constitution, replacing former governor Janet Napolitano. Jan Brewer became governor at a time of extreme economic upheaval for the state, and issues such as a dwindling tax base, record foreclosures, public education funding, illegal immigration and healthcare have all been

Brewer was born Janice Kay Drinkwine in Hollywood, California to Perry and Edna Drinkwine. Her father died of lung disease when she was eleven years old. She married John Brewer and worked in Glendale, California before moving to his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona in 1970. They later moved to Glendale, Arizona where he became a successful chiropractor and found success in real estate as well.

Brewer served as a Republican in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1983 to 1986. She was then a state senator from 1987 to 1996. She represented the city of Glendale and parts of Maricopa County.

In 1996, Brewer ran for chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors defeating incumbent Ed King and served six years. She inherited a debt of $165 million, and by the end of Brewer’s tenure in 2002, she left Maricopa County in one of the strongest financial positions of any county in the nation. The Governing Magazine proclaimed the County as “one of the two best managed large counties in the nation.” She was elected Secretary of State of Arizona in 2002 and served until 2009.

Brewer, as Arizona Secretary of State, was the first in line to succeed Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano when Napolitano resigned to become United States Secretary of Homeland Security on January 21, 2009. Brewer is Arizona's fourth female governor and its third consecutive female governor.
Brewer is running for re-election for a full term in the 2010 gubernatorial election.

Governor Brewer signed Arizona SB1070 into law, making it "a state crime for illegal immigrants to not have an alien registration document", and requiring police "to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants." It also makes it illegal for people to hire illegal immigrants for day labor or to knowingly transport them. In addition, it provides provisions to allow citizens to file lawsuits against government agencies that hinder enforcement of immigration laws.
The bill passed was signed into law on April 23, 2010. A follow-on bill, said to address certain "racial profiling" issues with the original bill, was passed by the Arizona legislature just before ending their 2010 session, and was signed by Governor Brewer on April 30, 2010.

Jan Brewer also signed legislation that entitled persons in Arizona to carry guns into bars, unless the bar has specifically stated that guns are not to be permitted. She also signed a bill that allows Arizona citizens to conceal weapons without having to get a permit. The new law has proved to be controversial in the state with passionate views and opinions on both sides of the debate.

Arizona is essentially in a state of budget crisis. The governor has repeatedly called on the state legislature to work together to find solutions and to work across party lines to reach a solution. In addition, the governor has called for a state sales tax hike, an issue which state Republicans in the legislature wish to avoid.

Jan Brewer signed a bill repealing legislation put into place by the former governor Janet Napolitano, which had granted domestic partners of state employees the ability to be considered as "dependents," similar to the way married spouses are handled.

Brewer has responded to the recent passing of health care bill in the US Congress by calling upon a special state legislative session to join in the class-action lawsuit by 21 state Attorneys Generals to challenge the constitutionality of the federal mandate to purchase health insurance.
