JOHN PALATINUS
JULY 6TH, 1929- SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2014
During the 1950's there was a handfull of men photographing homoerotic imagery.  Bob Mizer- AMG, Lon of New York, but there were many unknown photographers.
Photographer John Palatinus created homorerotic images from his apartment in New York city from 1955 till 1959. Selling small prints through the mail,
 his buisness was thriving.
In 1959, Palatinus was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service and police, who raided his New York City apartment. Accused of sending explicit photos through the mail, a criminal offense, he was arrested and put on trial in 1961. Palatinus was found guilty, but allowed to go free because he had spent a night in jail at the time of  arrest. All his photos and negs were destroyed.
John was so shaken by the experience that he turned away from physique photography and changed careers. Half a century later renewed interest in his photographs fueled an unexpected career resurgence.
I premiered John Palatinus's first every exhibition at my gallery Antbellum Hollywood on February 14th, 2010. The opening was packed out the door.
John was then greeted with enthusiasm from galleries and festivals where his photographs were featured in exhibitions from San Francisco to Paris, and Berlin, as well as editorials in numerous magazines.
Thrilled with the attention, Palatinus acknowledged it as his second act, which he described as “wonderfully rewarding.”

brass orchids

Initially, hatred is gashed with such restraint
allowing only suction from mountainfat pipes
to swallow out between pulp the chase desired.
One day tho, all our hearts will shake out thrones.

What we say is a species of what we've said,
tho strains to reach low, hardened darkness
does not shine how we expect it should.
Barely anything deep knows how to stroke the day.

Of course, you can dig inside your mind
for your thoughts the way miners do diamonds
but what you find is riddled with wanton promise.
Better to just go downtown, get what you need.

It's funny, the places want will tend to create,
hinged or loose, tissued with the shuddering,
cooing, then the collapse. Sawdust dreams
blown away so easy and never that real wonder

lashed together under hammer and nail. Does
a forest really hold more beauty than a garage
or is there just more shit in the way so
delayed are our senses' relapse to boredom?

The nightsky is garish when all the stars elate
their shinylines. Nightmares are simple:
laughing clocks and broken dogs. Scarred our
flesh by smeared chandeliers in rabid myriad.

This skin is so lost. Where once it strayed
no further than our selves, billowing now
with the sail our scars formed, so miles
could become waves and touch an ocean.

But, the bottom of the sea is a disappointment.
Pearls are only dirt, so are all our coral reefs.
Forgive your worst joke and your very best bruise.
Gasp bright with all this hour we've found-
