HOLLYWEED
HOLLYWEED!
On January 1st, 1976, Hollywood residents woke up to read their famous hilltop sign a little differently. Local prankster Danny Finegood had indulged in some large-scale wordplay and changed the sign to say “Hollyweed“. It was to be the first of many pranks on the Hollywood sign by Danny and coincided with the day less restrictive California marijuana laws took effect. Performed as what he claimed was part of a college art project on New Year’s Day, Danny used stones and rope to hoist up pieces fabric and change the appearance of the giant letters.
Finegood’s other pranks on the Hollywood sign included changing it to “Holywood” for Easter in 1976, “Ollywood” in 1987 to satirize the popularity of Marine Lt. Col Oliver North during the Iran-Contra hearings and finally “Oil War” in 1990 as a statement against the Gulf War. After this, park rangers tightened security on the hill and Finegood’s pranks were no more.

420~ IS OVER
closing party for 420~ CANNABIS AS ART, was insane.....
if you don't believe me- ask my neighbors. las vegas newbie- KENT CLARK wore the ceremonial cannabis costume created by $EX ARTISTE, including the peyote ritual fan. i christened kent the MJ GOD and placed him in front of ANTEBELLUM on the sidewalk of las palmas ave. boy did he stop traffic. not only was the MJ GOD resplendent in his costume, he also has a very loud voice.... who would've thought.... he was so low-key when we met.
the MJ god was later joined by legalize cannabis guru RICHARD EASTMAN, who had been having the time of his life, whipping up a batch of, "special" brownies. this combined with our, "special" tea really got the 420 crowd into a state of frenzy.
next thing i knew richard eastman was on a bullhorn, (where did he get this?) running up & down las palmas ave inviting everyone and anyone to the party.. this was even too much for my doorman- BEN who just threw his hands up in surrender. then NICKKI jumped into the gallery window and sang an off-the-cuff Acappella version of "i'm burning up for your love."
in the meantime, richard eastman talked marco morente into making him a pair of marijuana print stretch pants. clayton webster from cerre was more than happy to try them on, and then would not give them back.. afterwards angelinie from cavern put on MJ GOD'S costume and was loving the good vibes.

THE KUSH BOA
my neighbor flavie webster amused me today by modeling
THE KUSH BOA~ a one-of-a-kind design by antebellum artist~
$EX ARTISTE.
this handmade piece is created with long fluffed green yarn and feather scarf interwoven with faux Marijuana leaves. This scarf was created to appear as a living, clustered Marijuana plant, available @ antebellum gallery~ 420~ CANNABIS AS ART exhibition thru may 7th.

well the holiday for the, "opiated masses" finally came... and it didn't disappoint!
opening night @ antebellum's- 420~CANNABIS AS ART exhibition was whimsical & magical.
everyone was in such a good mood, except perhaps for me...
curating can be a real strain, and very stressful. the combination of artists & potheads makes for a very mañana attitude, if you know what i mean...... never-the-less, fun was held by all, including an exhausted gallery owner.
here are the first batch of pics taken by antebellum's official photographer~ BOOTS BRYANT-
420~ CANNABIAS AS ART exhibition is now open~ wednesday thru saturdays, 1-7pm, thru may 7th.. come check out the art, it's guaranteed to give you a "buzz."
