MY LITTLE PONY

my longtime friend, PIERCE,
(formerly known as carmilla-caliban cock) has a very interesting life. when i first met him back in 1995, he was an artist living in BERN, SWITZ, with his BF- DRA-ZEN, in a beautifully decaying & condemned castle.. they even had their own cemetery!

pierce modeled for me wearing clear rubber in death valley, ca. two of these images are in my book- 13 years of bondage. we also traveled to palm springs together to spend the day with filmmaker kenneth anger.

he then moved to zurich and opened his own S&M dungeon, beautifully lit with red lighting.
later peirce opened a sex-club-cabaret, (dedicated to amanda lear) in a 15th century basement in downtown zurich, also hosting a sex-worker radio show, (the most fantastic music!) after i introduced him to peter christopherson, (aka SLEAZY) of COIL, he and his new BF-MASSIMO toured with the band for a few years.

the last time i saw pierce- he, dra-zen & massimo were all living together in zurich. pierce was now working at a heroin rehab clinic and would amuse us each night with horrific stories of patients trying to escape by tying bed-sheets together, (it didn't work, the guy broken his back) or this one lady addict who presented herself in the lobby announcing, " I'M CLEAN, HERE I AM!."
pierce now lives in the south of france on a rural farm, growing his own food and taking care of horses.

they had a new addition to the horsey family yesterday....

"HERE SHE IS!"

pierce writes~ A pretty little horse is born! Of course she came by a full moon! Only one day young she's already running around on the meadow with her mother. What a pretty little horse!

YELLOW JOURNALISM GOES BLACK

the washington post mistakenly used a stock photo of MALCOM X to illustrate a mundane story on BARACK OBAMA. a mistake? oh really?

I LOVE SOLVANG

i convinced my friends glen meadmore & allura to accompany me to solvang on tuesday..
they seemed like they wanted to go, but once we got there were board as two bricks.... nothing i could do would cheer them up. so i just galavanted on my lonesome, taking in the sights and sounds of SOLVANG; the happiest place on earth, and the location for the classic slasher film- HOMICIDAL by william castle.
here are some pics-

(standing underneath a solvang gazebo.. so quaint)

( the world's largest clog- besides being popular with danes, solvang is also a hotbed for hippies & lesbians)

(i found a "tearoom," in solvang!)

(solvang- circa 1961, the location used for filming- HOMICIDAL. we had lunch @ this same spot!)

after we left solvang we traveled a few miles to
LOS OLIVOS and my travel partners perked up.. we all really enjoyed the BROTHERS RESTAURANT @ MATTEI'S TAVERN

RAW POWER

raw power a doco about the making of the 3rd album from IGGY & THE STOOGES had a sneak preview tonight @ the american cinematheque, (located directly behind antebellum). band member james williamson was in attendance to talk about his life with the stooges and sign the re-release of RAW POWER.
sorry, no pics, but here's some live footage of a performance of THE PASSENGER, circa 1977.

SEARCH AND DESTROY:IGGY & THE STOOGES RAW POWER
Written and Directed by MORGAN NEVILLE
(45min) With "Raw Power," Iggy & The Stooges reinvented themselves and set out to conquer the world, but the world had other plans. Released in the mellow haze of 1973, the album crashed and burned and brought the band down with it. But “Raw Power” survived as a sacred talisman of proto-punk fury, spurring young rockers to take up the fight. 37 years later, and on the heels of The Stooges' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this documentary tells the unlikely story of the fall and rise of The Stooges and "Raw Power." Featuring NEW interviews with Iggy Pop, James Williamson, Scott Asheton, Mike Watt, Johnny Marr, Chrissie Hynde and Henry Rollins; plus unseen live footage from 1973 and footage of James Williamson's first reunion gig with Iggy and the Stooges - after 35 years! - shot at Festival Planeta Terra, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2009.

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

jeff buckley singing hallelujah, live circa 1996.
i remember staying with my friend gary in phoenix, AZ and he playing me buckley's version of this leonard cohen classic, and i thought to myself, this person sounds like they are no long of this earth. apparently i was right.

Jeffrey Buckley (November 17, 1966 – May 29, 1997), was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was the son of Tim Buckley, also a musician. After a decade as guitarist-for-hire in Los Angeles, Buckley gained popularity in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material.

Over the following two years, the band toured widely to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. In 1996, they stopped touring and made sporadic attempts to record his second album in New York with Tom Verlaine as producer. In 1997, Buckley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to resume work on the album, to be titled My Sweetheart the Drunk, recording many four-track demos while also playing weekly solo shows at a local venue. While awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he drowned during a spontaneous evening swim--fully clothed--in the Mississippi River, when he was caught in the wake of a passing boat. His body was found on June 4, 1997.

Since his death, there have been many posthumous releases of his material, including Leonard Cohen's song, "Hallelujah." he attained his first #1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs in March 2008 and reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart at Christmas 2008. Buckley and his work remain popular and are regularly featured in 'greatest' lists in the music press.

THE TEA LADIES OF SUDAN

THE TEA LADIES OF SUDAN, despite the current harsh times, continue a rich history of soothing tea, storytelling & lore....

By Jeffrey Fleishman
The tea ladies come before the sun, lighting fires, shaking jars, spooning sugar. They hum and sing, lost women marked with tribal symbols, far from home. They sit and wait, kettles hissing in ember and ash, the great day beginning, rolling off the Nile like a damp, smothering cloth.

Wet, smooth and swift, her hands dart from jar to sifter, stoking the fire, the silver kettle blackening. Life has gone by selling tea to friends and strangers on a patch of sidewalk barely wider than her lap. This city turned hard and the man she married ended up no good, but her voice is pretty, like a hymn drifting down from a high wire, soothing the men in white turbans who sip from slender glasses.
