san franciso legend camille o'grady passed away this morning amidst  world  collapse.

camille was an incredible singer, poet and visual artist. she became lovers with robert opel in the mid 70s. together they presented 

fey way studios: the first fetish- glbtq art gallery- ever!

fey way presented tom of finland, robert mapplethope, rex, the hun, entienne, and many fetish artists to the public for the first time.

camille was the only woman allowed at the leather bars/sex clubs throughout the 70s. mainly because she passed as a leatherman.  camille was present when robert opel was murdered at the gallery. the authorities called it a robbery gone wrong. camille and friends knew it was political retaliation from a police state era which was unhappy with the burgeoning gay scene and the blaming of  fellow cop dan white
 for harvey milk's murder.
camille went into hiding for many years after robert's murder. in the early 2000's camille took me to the original location of fey way studios. like an omen the space was open and availble for rent. camille was reunited with the guy that saved her life. an upstairs neighbor. 
yes, i have it all on film!

camille o'grady was an original spirit with original ideas. a truly one-of-a-kind person-

BELA LUGOSI 

 20 October 1882 – 16 August 1956),

 Hungarian-American actor famous for portraying Count Dracula

 in the 1931 film and for his roles in various other horror films.

He had been playing small parts on the stage in his native Hungary

 before making his first film in 1917, but had to leave the country

 after the failed Hungarian Communist Revolution of 1919. 

In 1927, he appeared as Count Dracula in a Broadway adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel. He later appeared in the classic 1931 film Dracula by Universal Pictures. 

Through the 1930s, he occupied an important niche in popular horror films, 

with their East European setting, but his Hungarian accent limited his repertoire,

 and he tried unsuccessfully to avoid typecasting.

Meanwhile, he was often paired with Boris Karloff, who was able to demand top billing. 

To his frustration, Lugosi, a charter member of the American Screen Actors Guild, was increasingly restricted to minor parts, kept employed by the studio principally in order that they could put his name on the posters. Among his pairings with Karloff, he performed major roles only in The Black Cat (1934), The Raven (1935), and Son of Frankenstein (1939); even in The Raven, Karloff received top billing
 despite Lugosi performing the lead role. 

By this time, Lugosi had been receiving regular medication for sciatic neuritis, and he became addicted to morphine and methadone. This drug dependence was noted by producers, and the offers eventually dwindled to a few parts in Ed Wood's low-budget movies—most notably Plan 9 from Outer Space. 

Lugosi, who was married five times and had one son, Bela George Lugosi, 

died of a heart attack on August 16, 1956.

CHARLES MANSON IS DEAD

The media surrounded Charles Manson at an L.A. jail after his December 1969 arrest.

Steve Railsback and Gethin Anthony played him on TV, he drew inspiration from The Beatles, and The Beach Boys recorded one of his songs.

Charles Manson, the sinister ringleader behind the grisly 1969 killing spree that took the life of young actress Sharon Tate and six others, died Sunday, TMZ reported. He was 83.

Manson died at a Bakersfield hospital in California, Tate's sister Debra told TMZ after receiving a call from the prison where Manson was located. He had been serving multiple life sentences in Corcoran State Prison in Corcoran, Calif., after being convicted in January 1971 of conspiracy to commit the murders.

Like his followers, or "family," Hollywood was attracted to Manson on several occasions. Perhaps the most notable onscreen portrayal of him was turned in by Steve Railsback in Helter Skelter, a CBS event telefilm directed by Tom Gries that aired over two nights in April 1976.

Based on the best-selling 1974 book co-written by Los Angeles County assistant district attorney and Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, it was a ratings sensation, attracting an estimated 50 million-plus viewers.

Before the murders, Manson aspired to a career in the L.A. music scene. After learning to play guitar in prison, he became friends with Byrds producer Terry Melcher (the son of actress Doris Day) and Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys, and the fabled group covered one of his songs.

Manson even recorded 13 folksy songs for an album that eventually was titled Lie: The Love and Terror Cult; it was released independently in March 1970 to help pay for his defense during his murder trial.

“SCHEELE GREEN"

The color green. Generally associated with good luck and four-leaf fucking clovers the color green was anything but good luck back in the 1800s. During the entire century and into the 1900s arsenic was used in all kinds of everyday products from wallpaper to paint as well as women’s clothing and beauty products. 

Originally known as “Scheele Green” in 1814 German company Wilhelm Dye and White Lead Company decided to try to modify the paint by adding arsenic and verdigris (a blue/green color that is made by using copper or brass to oxidize it). The new color was dubbed “emerald green” and was an overnight smash. It was soon being used for all kinds of things including dying dresses, shoes and flower hair accessories for women, among countless other products too numerous to mention. When the actual “recipe” for the dye was published in 1822 distributors attempted to temper the color as well as change its name so customers would keep using products that would eventually killmany of them. 

Due to their constant contact with the deadly dye, seamstresses and makers of flower hair accessories were especially susceptible to the dangers of getting up close and personal with arsenic and would pay for it by developing horrific lesions on their skin or face. And they were the lucky ones. Death from arsenic poisoning was preceded by vomit that was a distinct shade of green, foaming at the mouth and convulsions. All things considered, as bad as things are now, they really seemed a whole lot worseduring a time when looking good could literally kill you. I’ve included many images in this post of vintage garments, shoes and other items that drastically cut the average life-expectancy of a lot of ladies and anyone who liked cake because guess what? Arsenic was also used to color cake icing back in the 1800s! If this kind of historical weirdness is your kind of thing I highly recommend picking up the book Fashion Victims: The Dangers of Dress Past and Present by Alison Matthews David.

CASTRO IS DEAD

After years of dealing with failing health, Fidel Castro, leader of the Cuban revolution who steered the country through decades of a US economic blockade, has died, state media report.

Castro died on Friday at 7pm local time, Cuban television said. His death was confirmed by his brother Raul, who took the reins after Fidel stepped down.

FLORENCE HENDERSON, MOM ON 'BRADY BUNCH,' DIES AT 82.

LOS ANGELES -- 

Florence Henderson, the wholesome actress who went from Broadway star to television icon when she became Carol Brady, the ever-cheerful mom residing over "The Brady Bunch," has died. She was 82.

She died surrounded by family and friends, her manager, Kayla Pressman, said in a statement late Thursday.

Millions loved, and kept on loving, the innocent sitcom about a blended family. "The Brady Bunch," first aired in 1969, returned to television in various forms again and again, including "The Brady Bunch Hour" in 1977, "The Brady Brides" in 1981 and "The Bradys" in 1990. It was also seen endlessly in reruns.

Florence  Henderson

 (February 14, 1934 – November 24, 2016)

 an American actress and singer with a career spanning six decades. 

She was best known for her starring role as matriarch Carol Brady on the ABC sitcom The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974. Henderson also appeared on film as well as on stage and hosted several long-running cooking and variety shows over the years. She appeared as a guest on many scripted and nonscripted (talk and reality shows) television programs and as a panelist on numerous game shows. She was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars in 2010. Henderson currently hosts her own talk show, The Florence Henderson Show, and cooking show, Who's Cooking with Florence Henderson, on Retirement Living TV (RLTV).

1,428 people who died in Los Angeles in 2011, were cremated by the county and were still unclaimed were buried in a mass grave last December 2014. Of these unclaimed dead, most had names and birthdays and genders, but there were eight John and Jane Does. There were 137 babies, some of them stillborns. There are 622 people who were over 65 years old. Sixteen were homicides. 
There were nearly twice as many unclaimed men as women: 853 men and 436 women.

1,464 unclaimed individuals were buried in December 2013, and 1,656 were buried together in 2012.

For the first time, the unclaimed dead of 2011 were digitalized into a searchable database (http://spreadsheets.latimes.com/unclaimed-dead/). 

To claim the ashes of an unclaimed person, call the L.A. County Morgue at (323) 409-7161. 

All the names of unclaimed dead will eventually be online, according to Andrew Veis, assistant press deputy for County Supervisor Don Knabe. An additional resources for identifying unclaimed persons is this volunteer service http://unclaimedpersons.org/, an online group of about 600 volunteers who scour public records for possible family.

Traditionally this has been a sparsely attended ceremony, usually just a few County employees, some clergy and media, and a few observers.

PEG ENTWISTLE JUMPED OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN 84 YEARS AGO~ TODAY

 "Peg" Entwistle  

(5 February 1908 – c. 16 September 1932) 

 Welsh-born English stage and screen actress.  Entwistle began her stage career in 1925, appearing in several Broadway productions.  She appeared in only one film, Thirteen Women, (in the film she commites suicide) 

 which was released after her death. Entwistle gained notoriety after she jumped to her death from the "H" on the Hollywoodland sign 

 in September 1932, at the age of 24.

Peg Entwistle  played the role of "Hedvig" in Henrik Ibsen's The Wild Duck during 1925. After seeing the play,  a young wanna be acrtress named Bette Davis told her mother,
 "...I want to be exactly like Peg Entwistle."
 Some years later Broadway director Blanche Yurka sent a note to Davis asking if she would like to play Hedvig and she sent word back that ever since she had seen Entwistle in 
The Wild Duck, she knew she would someday play Hedvig. 
Through the years Davis said Entwistle was her inspiration to take up acting.

In April 1927 Entwistle married actor Robert Keith at the chapel of the New York City Clerk's office. She was granted a divorce in May 1929. Along with charges of cruelty, she claimed her husband did not tell her he had been married before and was the father of a six-year-old boy, Brian Keith, who later became an actor, 
(famous for his role in the 60s TV series Family Affair) and who himself committed suicide.

After moving to Hollywood during 1932, Entwistle found her first and only credited film role for Radio Pictures (later RKO). Thirteen Women stars Myrna Loy and Irene Dunne in a pre-Hays code, high-budget thriller produced by David O. Selznick
 and drawn from the novel by Tiffany Thayer.

 Entwistle played a small supporting role as Hazel Cousins. It premiered on 14 October 1932, a month after her death, at the Roxy Theatre in New York City and was released in Los Angeles on 11 November to neither critical nor commercial success. By the time it was re-released in 1935, 14 minutes had been cut from the film's original 73 minute running length. In 2008 Variety magazine cited 
Thirteen Women as one of the earliest "female ensemble" films.

On 18 September 1932, an anonymous woman telephoned the Los Angeles police and said that while hiking she had found a woman's shoe, purse and jacket below the Hollywoodland sign (now known as the Hollywood Sign). The woman said she looked in the purse and found a suicide note. She then said she looked down the mountain and saw a body. According to a police transcript of the call, the woman said she "wrapped a jacket, shoes and purse in a bundle and laid them on the steps of the Hollywood Police Station." 

A detective and two radio car officers found the body of a moderately well-dressed, blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman in a ravine below the sign. Entwistle remained unidentified until her uncle (at whose Beachwood Canyon home she had been living) connected her two-day absence with the description and initials "P.E." on a suicide note which had been found in the purse and published by the newspapers.

 He said that on Friday, 16 September she had told him she was going for a walk to a drugstore and see some friends. The police surmised that instead she made her way to the nearby southern slope of Mount Lee to the foot of the Hollywoodland sign, climbed a workman's ladder to the top of the "H" and jumped. The cause of death was listed by the coroner as "multiple fractures of the pelvis."

The suicide note as published read:

"I am afraid, I am a coward. I am sorry for everything.If I had done this a long time ago,

it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E."

Entwistle's death brought wide and often sensationalized publicity. Her funeral was held at the WM Strathers Mortuary in Hollywood on 20 September.

 

 Her body was cremated and the ashes were later sent to Glendale, Ohio, for burial next to her father in Oak Hill Cemetery, where they were interred on 5 January 1933.

In 2014, roughly one hundred people marked the anniversary of Entwistle's death by gathering in the parking lot of Beachwood Market in Hollywood to watch 

Thirteen Women on an outdoor screen. Proceeds from a raffle and from food and beverages sold at the screening were donated to the 

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Entwistle's name
