TONIGHT WILL BE A RARE EVENT....

Today is summer solstice,  tonite a full moon. they’re both special, and when they just so happen to occur on the same day, as they will this year-  this is once-in-a-lifetime special.

The 2016 North American summer solstice happens on June 20, 2016 at 6:34 PM EDT. That’s the very moment when, essentially, the sun stands still at its northernmost point as seen from Earth. Its zenith doesn’t yearn north or south, but waits patiently at the Tropic of Cancer before switching directions and heading south again.

It’s the day of the year with the most sunlight, the grand dame of long summer days. Even though technically it is only the first day of summer, it may actually be the best one of all. New York City will have 15.05 hours of daytime.

The summer solstice alone is iconic enough. It’s a day with a time-honored history rife with pagan celebrations and all things Stonehenge. But this year we get the big beautiful bonus of a full moon, which hits its peak on the same day. This hasn’t happened in 70 years.

Meanwhile, the June moon was known as the Strawberry Moon to early Native American tribes, who measured time by things like the moon, rather than a grid on a piece of paper or an electronic device. The full moon that happened now marked the season of strawberries – as it still does. More and more people have started harkening back to these more-seasonal full moon names; it's a lovely practice.

This rare quasi~doco chronicling a day in the life of a group of twenty-something Native Americans

 who left reservation life in the 1950s to live in the district of Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, California. 

Bunker Hill was by then a blighted residential locality of decayed Victorian mansions.

 The film features Yvonne Williams, Homer Nish, and Tommy Reynolds.

                                                                                

 

Filming was done in 1958. The film features rock and roll music composed for the film and performed by The Revels. 

The cast of American Indian actors are notable for their lack of self-consciousness as they drink and socialize during a night out on the town ending in a 49 party of drumming and dancing on "Hill X" overlooking downtown LA~ at the time~ chavez ravine, now dodger stadium.

Known to cinephiles, but remaining largely unseen by the public ~The Exiles has rich images of history that was once LA.

PARIS IN COLOR~ CIRCA~1900

Extremely Rare Color Photography of Early 1900s Paris

Although some of these images might look like a modern day photography and some of them like painted pictures, actually it is real colored photographies, taken at the beginning of the 20th century Paris (France). It is extremely astonishing to look at the world now long gone, the world which you are used to see in black & white images and often with poor quality.

All the images shown below were taken using Autochrome Lumière technology. It's an early color photography process, patented in 1903 and invented by the famous French Auguste and Louis Lumière, populary known as Lumière Brothers. They were the earliest filmmakers in history.

So, here it is! The city of love: the streets, the architecture, the people, interiors and grand events – all of them in their true colors.
