THE MODERN DANDY movement is gaining in popularity. this diverse movement was re-generated by andre 3000 with his "Benjamin Bixby" clothing line back in spring of 2008, along with fashionista~ hedi slimane, and alfred darlington aka DAEDELUS with his electronic music. what's great about the modern dandy movement is it isn't only an anglophile obsession, in fact all nationalities & diversities are championing this surprisingly sexy, not to mention, fetishistic look. locally jose promis, renfield & myself have presented dandy~esque theme events @ antebellum. every year i host~ OSCAR WILDE'S BIRTHDAY, (oct 16th) & DEATH DAY, (nov 30th) PARTIES. in fact i remember way back in 1998 when clive barker made a startled comment upon meeting me. turning to bill condon he said, "why he's a modern day dandy!"

Today, an initiative that would legalize personal marijuana possession and allow regulated sales of marijuana to adults will qualify for California's November general election ballot. A win at the ballot would be a first of its kind in U.S. history. This is a remarkable moment in the struggle to change our decades-old marijuana policies. Marijuana was prohibited in 1937 before most Americans had ever heard of it. Today the U.S. leads the world in marijuana consumption. Nearly 26 million Americans used marijuana last year and more than 100 million have tried it in their lifetimes. A huge commodity of the underground economy, marijuana is the nation's top cash crop, valued at $14 billion in California alone. Our state Board of Equalization has estimated we would generate $1.4 billion a year by taxing marijuana like alcohol. live performance by "MAURICE & SCOTT," entitled~ "YOU'RE NOT MY PHYSICAL TYPE," was a throw-back to piano bars & bath houses of the 70s.
