CAR WRECK ON SELMA
there was a hideous car wreck on selma ave. i was trying to take out the baptist church, but i missed my mark and went thru the black metal gate instead. i walked away without a scratch, but my 2001 honda civic was totaled!

PARKING TICKET REVOLT

It's called the parking ticket. Opponents of the tax scheme say L.A. generates $300 million a year in parking revenue, $150 million of that from tickets.
A new revolt called the Los Angeles Parking Freedom Initiative cropped up late this year and promises to shake up City Hall in 2014 over the issue:
As parking fines have jumped to $61 in six years and the city's take has increased as a result of expanding hours when meters are in effect, local activists Steven Vincent and Jay Beeber are saying enough.
They're gearing up to force changes in the city's ticketing policy in 2014, including a possible voter initiative that could bypass the City Council's will.
Beeber, who helped put the nails in the coffin of the city's red-light camera scam, says the Los Angeles Parking Freedom Initiative is about putting the streets back under the control of the people.
After all, how many of you would vote for such onerous parking regulations and ticketing?
Beeber told us:
We're looking to reform the philosophy on the way parking is handled in the city of Los Angeles. Right now it's looked at as a profit center. How high can we make parking meter rates, how many hours can we run them for, how much can we increase the fines?
When the city had a budget crises a couple years ago the City Council went to the L.A. Department of Transportation and said, 'How can we maximize revenue here.' Rather than look at it from a standpoint of how much money you can extract from citizens, we should look at it as a service to the citizens of Los Angeles. That would help facilitate parking at businesses and neighborhoods without driving people away from the city and the businesses.

apparently it all started when the SUV accidentally clipped one of the biker's tires...
(this happened before the video) that lead to this video footage and the intense chase.
after the video ends the driver was beaten up by the cycle mob...
what do you think? who's fault is it?
btw- the driver had wife and child in the car.

THE DEAD MAN'S CURVE OF MULHOLLAND DRIVE
Photographer Jason Knight likes taking pictures of decaying things.
One of his upcoming exhibitions is of a bunch of photos of abandoned cars off the winding road above Fryman Canyon Park in Los Angeles.
Here's how he describes "Dead Man's Curve":
I was intrigued by legends of cars left to decay, dotting the hillsides below Mulholland Drive. The legends may have been true, but no one had taken the time to photograph these cars as far as I could tell. I did some research to find the most likely spot to discover if the rumors were true.
Here's a little narrative:
These ruins proved a little more difficult to discover than I had originally expected. As a result, I found myself proceeding in increasingly random patterns, grabbing at roots, close to tumbling down the hillside like the cars I was hunting. After one near fall, I looked up and saw a color that didn’t quite fit with the greens and browns of the hillside. It was a little off. A rust color. It was the first of the car wrecks that I would find. Judging from the lack of trees above it, it looked like it had barrel-rolled down the hillside. And it had been here for a while, I think. There was no leather interior, no plastic, no upholstery. Just the red, rusted metal and the shoots growing out of a long-ago crushed tree that still managed to survive and flourish.
I was on one bank of a hairpin turn, and just the one car was there. I crossed to the other side and climbed up the creek that ran down that canyon, and I was astonished at what I found.
First, a disintegrating section of crankshaft, half-buried in the creek, then big sections of plastic bumper, semi-buried in the walls of the narrow canyon and in the creek bed. And when I crested the next rise, I saw entire cars. Some were almost completely buried. Some were totally exposed. I saw at least seven that were mostly visible. I wondered how many more were buried, and in one section of debris, there were three cars, stacked haphazardly on top of each other. One car had a splintered loop of cable tied to its bumper.
A friend later told me that the city had tried and failed to pull some of these cars out of the canyon. With the expense, lack of success, and lack of outcry, they apparently gave up. I understood what he meant. Unreasonable expense is an unexpected, but grand protector of modern ruins.
