I have days where I just want everyone to go fuck themselves or walk off a cliff, but I only say that to myself, and I smile and I walk home and I have some tea, I talk to Garson [Kanin, her husband], I might take a nap. Then I wake up and I write, and in writing, I wipe away all the unpleasantness of the day, of the people, of the city, whatever. We have it in our power to overcome assholes, and I think we have them thrown into our path to see if we have the chops to handle them.

THE HISTORY OF MAXINE WATERS
Maxine Waters
(born August 15, 1938)
an American politician, serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 43rd congressional district, and previously the 35th and 29th districts, serving since 1991.
A member of the Democratic Party, she is the most senior of the 12 black women currently serving in the United States Congress, and is a member and former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. Before becoming a member of Congress she served in the California Assembly, to which she was first elected in 1976. As an Assembly member, Waters advocated for divestment from South Africa's apartheid regime.
In Congress, she is an outspoken opponent of the Iraq War and Donald Trump.
Waters was born in 1938 in Kinloch, Missouri, the daughter of Velma Lee (née Moore) and Remus Carr. Fifth out of thirteen children, Waters was raised by her single mother once her father left the family when Maxine was two. She graduated from Vashon High Schoolin St. Louis, and moved with her family to Los Angeles, California, in 1961. She worked in a garment factory and as a telephone operator before being hired as an assistant teacher with the Head Start program at Watts in 1966.
She later enrolled at Los Angeles State College (now California State University, Los Angeles) and graduated with a sociology degree in 1970.
In 1973, she went to work as chief deputy to City Councilman David S. Cunningham, Jr.. Waters entered the California State Assembly in 1976. While in the assembly she worked for the divestment of state pension funds from any businesses active in South Africa, a country then operating under the policy of apartheid, and helped pass legislation within the guidelines of the divestment campaign's Sullivan Principles. She ascended to the position of Democratic Caucus Chair for the Assembly.
Waters voted against the Iraq War Resolution, the 2002 resolution that funded and granted Congressional approval to possible military action against the regime of Saddam Hussein.
She has remained a consistent critic of the subsequent war and has supported an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq. Waters asserted in 2007 that President George W. Bush was trying to "set [Congress] up" by continually requesting funds for an "occupation" that is "draining" the country of capital, soldier's lives, and other resources.
In a subsequent floor speech, Waters told her colleagues that Congress, lacking the votes to override the "inevitable Bush veto on any Iraq-related legislation," needed to "better [challenge] the administration's false rhetoric about the Iraq war" and "educate our constituents [about] the connection between the problems in Pakistan, Turkey, and Iran with the problems we have created in Iraq."
A few months prior to these speeches Waters became a cosponsor of the House resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney for making allegedly
"false statements" about the war.
Waters has been very critical of the Tea Party movement. On August 20, 2011, while at a town hall discussing some of the displeasure that supporters of President Obama have had with the Congressional Black Caucus not supporting the president, Waters stated,
"This is a tough game. You can’t be intimidated. You can’t be frightened.
And as far as I’m concerned, the ‘tea party’ can go straight to Hell ...
and I intend to help them get there.
In a 2017 discussion with MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes, Waters said President Trump's friends and advisors who have ties to Russia or have oil and gas interests are "a bunch of scumbags". In February 2017, Waters said that Trump was "leading himself" to possible impeachment because of his conflicts and because many have suspicions,
and that he was creating "chaos and division".
Waters initiated urging for President Trump's impeachment shortly after he was sworn
In April 2017, Waters stated “I want this president impeached.”
Then Waters began publically leading activists in chants of “Impeach 45!

Chelsea Manning Released From Prison - Freedom Celebrated With Events Around the World
The BBC reports:
U.S soldier Chelsea Manning has been released from prison after serving seven years for leaking hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and military files to Wikileaks. A U.S Army spokesperson confirmed to the BBC that she had left Fort Leavenworth military prison in Kansas.
Most of what remained of her 35-year sentence was commuted by then-U.S President Barack Obama in January. Her lawyer earlier said she was excited but likely to be “anxious”. “She’s ready to finally be able to live as the woman that she is,” Nancy Hollander told the BBC. The 29-year-old soldier was born Bradley Manning.
Manning will remain on active but unpaid duty while her appeal is heard. She will continue to receive military health benefits in the meantime.

The release of Chelsea Manning from prison is being marked today with gatherings in at least nine countries.
Manning’s release is being marked with a ‘Toast to Freedom’ at Verona Bar & Café in Newton, New Zealand.
In Israel, Yonatan Shapira is dedicating a concert in Be’er Sheva to Manning.
There are other events planned in the Boston, Portland, Chicago, Dublin (Ireland), Reykjavik (Iceland) and Manchester (U.K).
Checkpoint Chelsea
In Berlin, a street artist has posted an image (Photo) of Chelsea at the famous Checkpoint Charlie at the old east/west Berlin border. Instagrammer Stephen Lowman told the media he spotted the poster on his way to work this morning.
The poster features an old image of Manning before she publicly revealed herself as transgender. Manning uses a similarly old, pre-transition image on her Twitter account.
There will be a screening later today of the film 6 Years to Free Chelsea at the Prisoners of Dissent event in the city.
In London, there will be a vigil outside St Martin’s-In-The-Fields church near Trafalgar Square at 5.30pm.
In San Francisco, a rally will be held at Harvey Milk Plaza between 6-7pm.
Many of the events have been coordinated and supported by the campaign groups Queer Strike and Pay Day Men’s Network – including the event in London this evening.
A spokesperson for Queer Strike told the media in a statement, ‘We are delighted that today on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, Chelsea Manning is finally free after seven long years of torture and abuse in prison for exposing U.S government and other countries’ war crimes and corruption.
‘Whistleblowers defend us and we have a responsibility to defend them.
‘We are looking forward to being on the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square today … Our sisters and brothers in QS and Payday in the U.S are taking action in San Francisco and Philadelphia.’

HOWEVER HE DIDN'T SUFFER FOOLS LIGHTLY.
YOU HAD TO KNOW Y0UR RESERCH BEFORE CONFRONTING STANLEY.
I HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF MEETING STANLEY @ MOCA WEHO SO WE COULD VIEW THE CAMERON EXHIBIT WITH MUTUAL AWE. WE THEN WALKED IN THE RAIN, (WITHOUT UNBRELLAS) AND CAUGHT THE BUS HOME. ON THE BUS FELLOW RIDERS JUST STARED AT US, AN UNLIKEY PAIR. WHAT COULD THOSE TWO POSSIBLY HAVE IN COMMON?

RFK ASSASSINATION- AS IT HAPPENED- JUNE 5TH, 1968
Kennedy scored a major victory in winning the California primary. He addressed his supporters shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968, in a ballroom at The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Leaving the ballroom, he went through the hotel kitchen after being told it was a shortcut to a press room. He did this despite being advised by his bodyguard—former FBI agent Bill Barry—to avoid the kitchen. In a crowded kitchen passageway, Kennedy turned to his left and shook hands with busboy Juan Romero just as Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, a 24-year-old Palestinian, opened fire with a .22-caliber revolver. Kennedy was hit three times, and five other people were wounded.
George Plimpton, former decathlete Rafer Johnson, and former professional football player Rosey Grier are credited with wrestling Sirhan Sirhan to the ground after he shot the senator. As Kennedy lay wounded, Juan Romero cradled his head and placed a rosary in his hand. Kennedy asked Romero, "Is everybody okay?" and Romero responded, "Yes, everybody's OK." Kennedy then turned away from Romero and said,
"Everything's going to be okay."
After several minutes, medical attendants arrived and lifted the senator onto a stretcher, prompting him to whisper, "Don't lift me", which were his last words
