Last night a HUGE and exhilarating gathering took place at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center NYC- under the event name
"Rise Together: The American Majority Against Trump."
The idea was hatched in my dear friend Kate Linker's loft by a small group of groovy activists including our dear NYC Council-member Corey Johnson, RJ Jordan, Ken Kidd, Ann Northrop, Michael Cavadias, Erik Bottcher, Laurie Hardjowirogo and others and was attended by close to 600 people!! 200 of which had to stand outside cause there was not even standing room left inside!! Unfortunately many were also turned away.
Speakers and fellow attendees also included US Congressman Jerry Nadler, Mayor Bill de Blasio, NYC Public Advocate Tish James, everybody's number one hero Edie Windsor, State Senator Brad Hoylman, NY State Assembly Person Deborah J. Glick, NY State Assembly Person Richard N. Gottfried, Councilmember Ritchie Torres, Borough President Gale Brewer and Comptroller Scott M. Stringer.
My brilliant comrade at Gays Against Guns, Ken Kidd, did an impeccable job moderating this insanely large group in an attempt to strategize on effective measures to counter the approaching storm. People were given immediate actions and more will follow. This is only the beginning, and a great beginning it was!!. Yes folks, this IS what Democracy looks like!!
The next meeting is slated for Dec. 4th at 3PM with a location to be determined - obviously a much bigger venue. Obviously you will want to be there. This is activism at it's highest! For more info, send an email to upcomingaction@gmail.com. See you there! #Uplifted
