26FT MARILYN MONROE HITS PALM SPRINGS
“Forever Marilyn,” the 26-foot-tall statue that became a controversial fixture on Chicago's Michigan Avenue, is now in palm springs!
The 34,000-pound sculpture, which cost about $40,000 to transport, took a week to be trucked across the country. The marilyn statue is now at Palm Canyon and Tahquitz Canyon Way, where it will remain until June 2013.
The sculpture by Seward Johnson, the 80-year-old artist and Johnson & Johnson heir who’s known for casting famous images into giant sculptures, re-creates the scene from the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch" in which a drafty New York subway grate blows the sex symbol's skirt well above her knees.
The piece didn't receive the warmest reception in Chicago during its time there and was the target of more than a few vandals and critics. Some called the undergarment-baring pose sexist, while VirtualTourist.com dubbed "Forever Marilyn" the No. 1 piece of bad public art -- ahead of a “Bewitched” statue in Salem, Mass.

Several cities lined up to host the massive Marilyn when its Chicago residency wrapped, perhaps because August marks the 50th anniversary of the Hollywood legend’s death.
"We received many requests as far away as Tokyo and Madrid and cities in Brazil, and we really felt that Palm Springs has a special connection to Marilyn because it is the legendary play land for Hollywood," said Paula Stoeke, the director and curator of the Sculpture Foundation, an organization funded and run by Johnson with offices in Santa Monica.
P.S. Resorts, a non-profit organization made up of local hoteliers to promote Palm Springs Tourism through events and attractions, announced that a series of films featuring Marilyn Monroe will be screened at the "Forever Marilyn sculpture at the corner od Palm Springs Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way.
The films will start at dusk. Seating is first-come first-served and movie-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or low lawn chairs.

"WHERE THE WOODBINE TWINETH"
"where the woodbine twineth" was a poplular phrase in the 1870's.
It is found in Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi". it was quoted in several old U.S. newspapers and journals as well. There was a popular song by Septimus Winter in 1870. But I suspect the phrase is older than that.
Many people are familiar with the phrase because it was used as the title of a story by Manly Wade Wellman, which was dramatized for the 77th episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
The name "woodbine" has been given to many vines or climbing plants, including some varieties of honeysuckle. In the U.S. it usually refers to the Virginia creeper.

MICHAEL ALIG
is the co-founding member of the Club Kids, a group of young clubgoers led by Alig and his long-time best friend James St. James in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1996 Alig was convicted of the murder of Andre "Angel" Melendez in a confrontation over a drug debt.
While incarcerated, Alig is prisoner #97A-6595. While in the New York prison system, Alig has been moved around from prison to prison, including time in the mental ward at Rikers Island.
Alig became eligible for parole in 2006. His first parole request, in November 2006, was denied, allegedly after parole officers watched the fictional movie based on Alig's life Party Monster, starring Macaulay Culkin.
He was again denied parole in July 2008. His next parole hearing date is in July 2012 and has his conditional release date set for November 30, 2016.
Parole is imminent, he has another meeting with the Parole Board this month, the news is he has kidney and back problems and is not doing well. He has been in loads of problems while being lock up in Prison, fights drugs etc.
It seems like he has made a home for himself inside .....
drugs got him in trouble in the first place and being locked up he found a way to get his hands on more drugs.
