CAPUCINE

CAPUCINE. (6 January 1928 – 17 March 1990)
was born Germaine Lefebvre in France on January 6, 1928 but had a habit of telling everyone that she was born in 1931. She began her career as a runway model in Paris and in the late 1950s she came to the United States hoping to become a film star. Flashing her beauty on the silver screen she appeared in over 30 films including "A Walk on the Wild Side" with Barbara Stanwyck, "The Lion", "What's New Pussycat", and several Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers. Married for six months in her early twenties, she never remarried.
In her later years Capucine would talk about her affairs with women when interviewed.

She was a longtime friend of Audrey Hepburn, the two having met while modeling in Paris in the late 1940s. A manic-depressive, Capucine's life had on several occasions been saved by her friend (both women lived at the time in Switzerland) after repeated suicide attempts.

On March 17, 1990, Capucine jumped out of the window of her penthouse,
( in Lausanne, Switzerland) where she had lived for 28 years. She had reportedly been suffered from illness and depression for some time. Falling eight floors to her death, her obituary in the New York Times stated that her only known survivors were her three cats.
