BIRDSONG ~RIP

my friend birdsong passed away this morning...

i met him approx. 3 years ago @ antebellum @ the opening for ADULTS ONLY.
we immediately hit it off and found we had numerous mutual friends in common.
over the years birdsong has been a friend to the gallery, worked for me, volunteered for me, had sex with me, went places with me, shared dinners & lunches with me, not to mention numerous tea salons. 
i hosted his last birthday in Los angeles @ antebellum, birdsong even lived with me for a short while.

birdsong was originally from atlanta, georgia where he worked for outwrite bookshop.  
he moved to nyc and ran/ curated an amazing gallery/bookshop/coffeehouse- 
rapture cafe during 2006.

around 2012 he moved to LA, where he helped me a great deal @ antebellum, later was a manager @ the pleasure chest~ weho. early this year  birdsong moved to tennessee to  short mountain~  the radical faerie retreat.

unfortunately, like many people birdsong was an alcoholic. it got the best of him and robbed him of his dreams. birdsong was driving the wrong way on a tennesse HWY and had a head on collision, (the other party suffered minor injuries) he was in a comma for a couple days and passed away this morning.
i will always remember the sweetest of souls and the friendship he gave to me. birdsong was a genuine friend. 
rest in peace my buddy.

Jamie Ross will document ceremony, community, accompanied by queer youth in ritual from the city to the wilderness.
The artist will also present a recent performance work, an invocation of power and solidarity, also featuring An T Horné (Montreal). This is the artist's first exhibition of photography in the US.
Shot on standard and small-gauge analogue film, a rough richness unites the works.
Jamie Ross (b. 1987, Canada) is a Montreal-based artist, filmmaker, and writer whose work blurs the lines of fact and fiction in its exploration of history and preoccupation with societal projections into the future. Personal psychogeography and senses of place are abiding interests, along with creating and documenting queer community based on a sincere engagement with magic. 
this is jamie's first performance in los angeles.

Come celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of

Gay Rights Pioneer & LGBTQ Activist Harry Hay

11:00 a.m. Dedication of “The Mattachine Steps,” just below Harry Hay’s 1950’s home, site of the founding of the Mattachine Society in 1950. Widely acknowledged as “the father of the modern gay movement,'” Hay would later co-found the Radical Faeries in 1979.  This ceremony will be hosted by FAELA -- Radical Faeries of Los Angeles, local community activists, and  will include remarks by LA City Councilman Eric Garcetti.  Location: The foot of the Cove Avenue Steps in Silver Lake, at Silver Lake Boulevard & Cove Avenue.

NOON Potluck Picnic-in-the-Park.  Bring food to share, friends, kids...just no alcohol or dogs, please. (cancelled in the event of rain).  Location: Just across the street from the Cove Avenue Steps, overlooking Silver Lake Reservoir (east side).

2:30 p.m. Book Signing & Reading of Stuart Timmons’ newly updated biography, The Trouble with Harry Hay.   Location: Stories Books, 1716 Sunset Boulevard, Echo Park (easy parking behind the store).
