celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of
Gay Rights Pioneer & LGBTQ
Activist Harry Hay
11:00 a.m. Dedication
of “The Mattachine Steps,” just below Harry Hay’s 1950’s home, site of the
founding of the Mattachine Society in 1950. Widely acknowledged as “the father
of the modern gay movement,'” Hay would later co-found the Radical Faeries in
1979. This ceremony will be hosted
by FAELA -- Radical Faeries of Los Angeles, local community activists, and will include remarks by LA City
Councilman Eric Garcetti. Location:
The foot of the Cove Avenue Steps in Silver Lake, at Silver Lake Boulevard
& Cove Avenue.
NOON Potluck Picnic-in-the-Park. Bring food to share, friends,
kids...just no alcohol or dogs, please. (cancelled in the event of rain). Location:
Just across the street from the Cove Avenue Steps, overlooking Silver Lake
Reservoir (east side).
2:30 p.m. Book
Signing & Reading of Stuart Timmons’ newly updated biography, The
Trouble with Harry Hay. Location:
Stories Books, 1716 Sunset Boulevard, Echo Park (easy parking behind the
store).
