From 17 August, and over the Folsom festivities in September, we show an exhibition and book presentation by Rinaldo Hopf "My Gay Eye - Tom of Finland Special".
The editor of the book, Rinaldo Hopf, an important figure of German gay art, was Resident Artist at The Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles in 2017 and has been featured for many years with regular exhibitions at The Ballery and many other international venues.
The book contains images from over 120 artists and authors from the global queer communities. Its curators have put a focus on bridging two continents
and the sister cities of Berlin and Los Angeles.
It is a survey of the history, development and influence of the artist
Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen, Finnish, 1920-1991)
as expressed through homages and critiques. Additionally, the reader gets a glimpse into the enormous wealth of erotic art and culture that has been protected, preserved and promoted by Tom of Finland Foundation since its inception in 1984.
The relevance of Tom’s art, and that of hundreds of fellow creators, is explored by artists who participate in the Foundation’s programs.
"My Gay Eye" will allow an even wider audience to enjoy and support the importance of queer history and culture while they savor the artwork of Peter Berlin to
Jim French (Colt Studios), George Quaintance to Rinaldo Hopf, Rick Castro,
Tom of Finland to Gengoroh Tagame, Rex and The Hun
to G.B. Jones and Del LaGrace Volcano, and contemporary artists
Stuart Sandford, and Florian Hetz.
Readers will enjoy German text contributions by
Kevin Clarke to Ralf König and American authors Michael Bullock to Jamison Karon.
This year's My Gay Eye is both in German and English,
making it the first international edition.

Vom 17. August bis zum Folsom-Fest im September zeigen wir in einer Ausstellung und Buchpräsentation von Rinaldo Hopf "Mein schwules Auge - Hommage an Tom of Finland". In der Ausstellung ist eine Auswahl der Illustrationen der gleichnamigen Anthologie zu sehen.
Die diesjährige Ausgabe Nr. 14 von "Mein Schwüles Auge" befasst sich mit den Bildern und Texten von Tom von Finnlands heute ikonographischem Werk, dem bürgerlichen Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991) und seiner Wirkung auf nachfolgende Künstlergenerationen.
Herausgeber des Buches, Rinaldo Hopf, eine wichtige Figur der deutschen schwulen Kunst, war Resident Artist bei der Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles im Jahr 2017.
In diesem Jahr ist Mein schwules Auge/My Gay Eye sowohl in Deutsch als auch in Englisch und somit die erste internationale Ausgabe.
Das Buch enthält Bilder von über 120 Künstlern und Autoren der globalen Queer-Communities. Die Kuratoren konzentrieren sich auf die Überbrückung zweier Kontinente und der Partnerstädte Berlin und Los Angeles.
Diese Ausgabe ist ein Überblick über die Geschichte, Entwicklung und den Einfluss des Künstlers Tom von Finnland (Touko Laaksonen, Finnisch, 1920-1991), wie er durch Huldigungen und Kritiken ausgedrückt wird. Zusätzlich erhält der Leser einen Einblick in den enormen Reichtum an erotischer Kunst und Kultur, der von der Tom of Finland Foundation seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1984 geschützt, bewahrt und gefördert wurde. Die Relevanz von Toms Kunst und der von Hunderten von Mitschöpfern ist von Künstlern erforscht, die an den Programmen der Stiftung teilnehmen, einschließlich Künstlerresidenzen.
