FEY WAY was originally located @ 1287 howard st., SF. during an exciting one year, ( march 78 thru july 79), robert presented some of the most original homoerotic/fetish artists who at the time had little recognition~ TOM OF FINLAND, ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE, ETIENNE, REX, CAMILLE O'GRADY, BUD LAWSEN, CHARLIE AIRWAVES, DIVINE and numerous others.
Robert Opel was murdered on the night of July 7, 1979, during a robbery of fey way studio,
by Robert E. Kelly and Maurice Keenan. some think it was a drug related crime, while many others, including robert's close friends believe it was political retribution against robert's performance criticizing the DAN WHITE VERDICT for the murders of HARVEY MILK & MAYOR MOSCONE.
robert performed a stage play entitled AMERICAN BUSTED, and a live performance @ the sf gay pride parade of that year~ where he portrayed dan white.
