AT LEAST THEY DID BACK IN 1970 WHEN THIS FILM WAS MADE...
"L.A. in 1970 was an "urban laboratory" that foreshadowed the sadness of suburban sprawl in global cities. Joy was only to be found in the air conditioned escape of nudie bars. Though we claimed to be the city of the future, we were really more about simultaneously living in and destroying our past. And the people, well, they're all fakers, who change their identities like an actor changes roles, and never interact with each other. Of course, what can you expect from a city with no center?"
