Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton~ is a documentary about embracing your passions and becoming the person of your dreams, disguised as an inspiring biopic about pioneering filmmaker and poet James Broughton.
James Broughton (1913-1999) was a Renaissance man who lived many
lives through many decades; as a playwright in the post-war San Francisco
arts scene, as a poetic filmmaker in Europe winning a special
prize at Cannes, and as an academic at the SF Institute of the Arts which
fostered his experimental work of the 1970s and 1980s. His film "The Bed"
with its liberal use of nudity broke new ground in U.S. cinema and
censorship. "Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton" is about his life.
