Based on a screenplay by John Carlen, the film was directed by Nicolas Cage in his directorial debut; Cage has a small cameo role. this is one of james franco's first films.
Sonny (Franco) is the son of Jewel (Blethyn) who runs a small brothel in New OrleansLouisiana. Sonny returns home from the army, staying with his mother while waiting to start the job an army buddy of his promised him. Jewel tries to convince Sonny to come back to working for her as he had before the army, saying many of his old clients still miss him and he was the best gigolo she had ever had.
this film was made in 2001, and is supposed to take place in the early 80s.
the acting is good from james franco & brenda blethyn.
nicolas cage's cameo is pathetic and an insult to gays.
this film is a perfect example of a
"modern camp" film.
the mommie dearest of hustler genre films.
