RICK TAKES A ROAD TRIP- 2011

dec 28th, 2011

my usual train trip during this time of year will be a road trip!
me dad loaned me his truck so i can deliver and return art..

i was planning to leave @ the crack of dawn, but once i got pyewackett, ( my black cat)
and sympathy, (my white cat) all situated it was 9:30am before i left.

(this isn't me dad's truck, but looks just like it)

driving me dad's truck brings back a lot of memories, (1980 ford pick up with camper shell) that and the radio playing rock & roll golden oldies from the 1970s.
"ive been thru the desert on a horse with no name."  bye, bye miss america pie. drove my chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry." pretty woman" by roy orbison, old version and newer heavy metal version!

passing all the mundane suburbs of LA country- el monte, Claremont, ontario, colton, (where me dad grew up) san bernardino, Beaumont. stopped @ morango indian reservation to pick up a couple
Crazy Coyote Tacos. they are amazing! then stayed over night @
one of my collector's condos in palm springs... what a delight...everywhere is filled with art. some from antebellum, some from around the world.

watched the gay classic films- total eclipse, (leonardo di caprio portraying rambau) and maurice, (a young hugh grant in a victorian gay love affair) highly, highly recommended.

dec 29th, 4am

up @ the crack of dawn for a "refreshing jacuzzi"m, (this is a line from hustler white) now on hwy 10 to arizona. i can tell i'm heading east because the sunrise  is directly in my eyes. it i blarring-glarring..
who would build a freeway directly in the path of the sun? there must be accidents on a regular basis.

7:50am
stop @ chiracho summit pass for a little breakfast. the food here is decent. a long time ago they had an a joining antique shop. i bought a pot there that i still use to this day. the antique shop is now gone. they have jelly jam gift bags instead. the breakfast cafe is directly next to the George Patton museum.. what a waste of land. there is also a cute little bungalow section where they offer overnight places to stay.. there are many kitties walking around. i pat them. the sign says mass is conducted in the patio.. maybe i won't stay here.... the breakfast is cheap & decent... i check out the photos from the founding of chiracho summit back in the day- circa 1930s.. it was founding by mrs chiraco... she looks so sweet.. had a family here in the middle of nowhere..  she looks regal. image moving to nowhere and creating a life for yourself.
i use the cafe toilet... wow.. there is a really cute boy cleaning the restroom! he is cute as a button. has my road trip horniness kicked in already?!

4pmish
they say you can't go home, even though i never lived here.
i'm sitting in what used to be the gay coffeehouse on 4th ave in downtown tucson. apparently it's not gay anymore although there is this leftist- trannie, (i think) spouting out her ideas about how nobody gets what they vote for any longer. she has really big - hard tits...

i walk up & down 4th ave and everything has changed. all the thrift shops are picked clean and all the venues look like venice beach circa 1990.
the lesbian/ seperatise /feminist- bookshop is now "family friendly." they sell christmas ornaments. christmas is over.
even my fave surplus store is bleak.

5:25pmish
i'm too tired to drive any further. i check into my fave
HOTEL- CONGRESS.

I AM SOOOOO HAPPY! the hotel congress doesn't disappoint. it has everything. the second i walk thru the doors, i am in a good mood. the desk clerk is this handsome man/boy who looks like a modern version of the 1930s. straight out of PAPER MOON.
he is sooooooo sweet and sooooooo polite. i want him.
he gives me the best deal on the room and tells me about all the enmities and perks i will receive by staying here. i move me dad's truck to the FREE, (eat that LA)  parking lot  and walk back to my room-  205...

OHMYGOD! MY ROOM it is amazing!!! i don't ever want to leave...
it has an original radio from the 30s, original phone! desk, chair, chenille bedspread...
i am happy as a lark.

HOTEL CONGRESS HISTORY~

In January 1934, the Tucson Police Department, with help from the Tucson Fire Department, were able to do what countless law enforcement agencies around the country had been unable to do—capture the notorious Public Enemy No.1 JOHN DILLINGER

and his gang—and they did so without firing a shot! Dillinger Days provides a fun way to honor this unique bit of Tucson history, celebrate a nostalgic era, and honor the brave men and women who protect our city on a daily basis. Congress Street, Toole Avenue and Hotel Congress are the setting for Dillinger Days, and the year is 1934.
