Boxing Day got its name in Victorian England where, on the day after Christmas, the well-to-do would give coins or boxes of castoff clothing to their servants or the poor. It became a servant’s holiday, too: after having served a lavish Christmas dinner to their masters, servants whose families were close by were given the day after Christmas off to go home. In some large houses, there might be a party for the servants or some other treat. City dwellers would often give small gifts to their lamplighters, postmen and delivery boys. 
It was a day for sharing.

So in honor of the boxing day tradition i invite you to share tea and bring me a present!

Indigenous Peoples' Day 

 is a holiday that celebrates the Indigenous peoples of North America. 

 It is celebrated in various localities in the United States. 

 It began as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day,  promoting Native American

 culture and commemorating the history of Native American people.  

The celebration began in Berkeley, California, through the

 International Indian Treaty Council, and Denver, Colorado, and now in Vermont,

 and Herndon, Virginia as a protest against Columbus Day. 

 Indigenous Peoples' Day is usually held on the second Monday of October,

  coinciding with the federal observance of Columbus Day.

 Recently the Los Angeles city council voted unanimously to replace 

 Christopher Columbus day with Indigenous People's Day.

LABOR DAY

 honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have 

made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country. 

It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend and it is considered 

the unofficial end of summer in the United States. 

Beginning in the late 19th century, as the trade union and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. "Labor Day" was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, which organized the first parade in New York City.

 In 1887, Oregonwas the first state of the United States to make it an official public holiday.

 By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty U.S. statesofficially celebrated Labor Day.
