CAMILLE O'GRADY AS "JACK SAVAGE"

Camille O'grady as ‘Jack Savage’
"my male alter, created in the early 70’s; NYC...
this photo by Ed Gallucci appeared in ´Hard Corps’a book published in 1976.
Jack placed 3rd as SF Mr Leather in 1979.
Everytime I became Jack, ( I did performances as him) was a revelation.
My best friends ( except for those in on it at a given time)didn’t have a clue it was me, and it was fascinating to interact with strangers and people I knew well as this male character.
Everyone who can should experience being the ‘other".

MYRA BRECKINRIDGE

 Myra Breckinridge novel, (1968)
satirical novel by Gore Vidal written in the form of a diary. Described by the critic Dennis Altman as "part of a major cultural assault on the assumed norms of gender and sexuality which swept the western world in the late 1960s and early 1970s," the book's major themes are feminism, transsexuality, American expressions of machismo and patriarchy, and deviant sexual practices, as filtered through an aggressively camp sensibility. The controversial book is also "the first instance of a novel in which the main character undergoes a clinical sex-change." Set in Hollywood in the 1960s, the novel also contains candid and irreverent glimpses into the machinations within the film industry.
Myra Breckinridge was dismissed by some of the era's more conservative critics as pornographic at the time of its first publication in February 1968, but nevertheless immediately became a worldwide bestseller and has since come to be considered a classic in some circles. "It is tempting to argue that Vidal said more to subvert the dominant rules of sex and gender in Myra than is contained in a shelf of queer theory treatises," wrote Dennis Altman. Critic Harold Bloom cites the novel as a canonical work in his book The Western Canon. Vidal called Myra his favorite of his books, and published a sequel, Myron, in 1974.
The novel was adapted into a 1970 film of the same name, which was universally panned. Vidal disowned the film, calling it "an awful joke".

Myra Breckinridge, (film1970)
American comedy film based on Gore Vidal's 1968 novel of the same name. The film was directed by Michael Sarne, and featured Raquel Welch in the title role. It also starred John Huston as Buck Loner, Mae West as Leticia Van Allen, Farrah FawcettRex Reed, Roger Herren, and Roger C. CarmelTom Selleck made his film debut in a small role as one of Leticia's "studs". Theadora Van Runkle was costume designer for the film, though Edith Head designed West's costumes.
Like the novel, the picture follows the exploits of Myra Breckinridge as she goes to Hollywood to turn it inside out; also in the story are a former Hollywood siren named Leticia and Myra's alter ego, Myron, who originally was a man before he became Myra.
The picture was controversial for its sexual explicitness (including acts like pegging), but unlike the novel, Myra Breckinridge received little to no critical praise and has been cited as one of the worst films ever made.

9. April Flores
April Flores doesn't mind being typecast as the fat girl of porn. In fact, it's a name she's embraced for herself, on the Internet (her website and Twitter handle is "Fatty_D") as well as in more artful projects, like a new book of photographs titled Fat Girl. As she told The Rumpus in August, "Once I decided on that title, I decided the meaning of that word could change for me. Now it's completely opposite. It's just a descriptive word, like 'red hair' or 'yellow table' - it doesn't hurt my feelings. I'm trying to change the negative connotations that word has."
Her book is a collaboration with her late husband, adult photographer and director Carlos Batts, who directed Flores in films like Voluptuous Biker Babes and April Flores World. When Batts passed away unexpectedly on October 22 at the age of 40, Flores recruited artist friends including Coop, Shepard Fairey, Olivia De Berardinis, Tera Patrick and Nina Hartley - the latter two of whom are porn stars in their own right - to exhibit their work at a silent auction fundraiser at Antebellum Gallery in Hollywood. The art show, aimed at relieving Flores of medical and funeral expenses, featured an erotic poetry reading with a topless performance by queer porn star Courtney Trouble. (And you thought poetry was boring?)

THE ADVENTURES OF MR. PENIS~

(mr. penis design by robert opel)

THE ADVENTURES OF MR. PENIS, (A TRUE STORY)
BY
ROBERT OPEL
RETOLD BY
RICK CASTRO

after robert opel had streaked the 1974 academy awards ceremony, his life became a fast track of political activism based on gay rights & sexual freedom.
always the provocateur robert designed the MR. PENIS costume which he premiered at the opening of  eons gallery in silver lake.
later that year, (1976) robert decided to enter mr. penis in the CSW GAY PRIDE PARADE.
at the time the csw parade went down hollywood blvd, ending @ crossroads of the world where they would then have the gay fair.

(invite for eons gallery~ circa 1976)

robert approached the starting point of the parade resplendent in his mr. penis costume..
or so he thought.
the first group of gay men to spot him shouted out, " what bad taste! that doesn't represent us.. get lost!"
he then asked to speak to the chairwoman of the parade, (torey osborn) and was told "absolutely not.... leave." as robert approached the chairwoman he was attacked by militant lesbians who hit him over the head with their gay rights signs. the police were called and he was hauled off and put in jail, (again).
all this as morris kight, (gay rights chairman) looked on.
the parade went on without robert & mr. penis with the marchers ironically asking for
"equal rights for all," fight oppression," and freedom now."
as a retaliation against the hypocrisy robert wrote a headline piece for finger magazine with the title~
"COCKSUCKERS CLAIM GIANT COCK IN BAD TASTE"
(the adventures of mr. penis~ a true story comic strip by j. roberts circa 1976)
