As lead vocalist of The Bags, Alice pioneered the first wave of LA punk, premiering at The Orpheum Theater in 1977. The Bags featured Patrica Morrison on bass, Craig Lee & Rob Ritter on guitar, and Terry Graham on Drums.
In 1980 she went on to create LA’s 1st all-female early death rock band, Castration Squad.
The late, great Shannon Wilhelm- lead vocals, Mary Bat-Thing, (Dinah Cancer) vocals, Alice Bag- Bass Guitar, Tracy Lea-guitarist, Elissa Bello- Drums, Tiffany Kennedy- keyboards, Phranc- guitarist.
Formed in 1980, Castration Squad challenged male privilege and gender inequality within the punk scene and culture in general.
The band members created an original Los Angeles goth aesthetic. Their sound was a unique blend of punk, deathrock/goth. Shannon sang in deadpan vocal performances.
The band inspired future death punk goth and riot grrrl music. Ms Bags many ground-breaking musical projects include- The Bags- Castration Squad-!Cholita!-Las Tres-Stay at Home Bomb.
She also wrote the critically praised memoir Violence Girl: From East LA Rage to Hollywood Stage (2011-Feral House publisher). I hosted Alice’s sold-out book-signing and surprise performance at my former fetish art gallery Antebellum Hollywood in 2011.
