The Gold Diggers bar had its humble beginnings as an inn and tavern built in 1924 on Route 66 portion of SM Blvd in East Hollywood.
In the 1950s, the building behind the bar was the soundstage for film director Ed Wood's Quality Studios where he filmed scenes for his cult classics, Glen or Glenda: I Changed my Sex, (1953) and Plan 9 from Outer Space, (1957).
The space later became Shamrock Studios rehearsal spot for bands including early incarnations of Guns N’ Roses, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Slayer.
The bar operated as a local dive & strip club from the 1970s until Dave Neupert purchased the property in early 2016, bringing back the inn, adding live music and restoring the rehearsal.
