GORE VlDAL
(October 3, 1925 – July 31, 2012)
was an American writer and public intellectual known for his patrician manner, epigrammatic wit, and polished style of writing.
Because of his matter-of-fact treatment of same-sex relations in such books as The City and The Pillar, (1948), followed much later by Myra Brenkenridge, (1968) and Myron,(1974) Vidal is often seen as an early champion of sexual liberation.
