The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms says a team of investigators and federal agents arrived Sunday in Beaufort. The team will work with the Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
The building burned Saturday; the loss is estimated at more than $2 million.
Before the building broke ground, someone spray painted "Racist" in red letters on its sign in July 2015.
Beaufort County Black Chamber CEO and president Larry Holman has said the fire will set back the project by at least a year. It was to be completed in December with a grand opening in January.
