The X-Spot porn shop at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue is gone. Last week the demo crew had closed off the parking lot and boarded it up. it is now a vacant lot....
the X-Spot was known for allowing patrons in through a buzzer system, featuring a discount sex toy rack, and "bilingual 'do not masturbate' signs by the quarter booths." it was also the porn shop of choice for Charles Bukowski when it was known as Le Sex Shoppe. bukowski lived down the street in the 1970s and also frequented the bar next down... which is still standing.
this is also the place where actor NICK STAHL was busted last year for "lewd act in public."
You may recall that this corner was also the former home of the beloved Thai Hot Dog stand that was demolished in 2011.
on a personal note.. i miss the thai hot dog. i knew the guy that made the hot dogs and they were really good & cheap. the thai hot dog and the x-stop gave east hollywood it's favor. the seedy element is what made the area unique. i also will miss the x-spot.. i used to by my amyl nitrate there.. now where will i get it?!
