Daddy Zeus, aka Mikal Bales, passed away at his home in Palm Springs. He was 73.
Mikal was born in Pomona, CA and served a stint in the Air Force and the Peace Corps in his younger days. He also worked as a publicist in Los Angeles with some of the best know leading ladies of the day, including Bette Davis, Doris Day and Elizabeth Taylor.
In the 70's Mikal recognized his growing fascination with images of muscular men in bondage and simultaneously became frustrated with not being able to find the kind of material he sought. In 1975 he borrowed $2000 and, along with a friend, started Zeus Studios. Their first effort was a mimeographed fetish magazine that attracted a wide and loyal following.
As Daddy Zeus, Mikal also starred in adult films but arguably his best work was behind the camera as the director of over 150 groundbreaking BDSM titles for Zeus Studios, including Tightropes Twenty-Nine, Brutal Kombat, and Punishment Asylum.
on a personal note~ daddy zeus always championed my photography & artwork.. he believed and supported me as an artist who was carrying on the leather tradition. Zeus studios distributed my bondage videos in the very begining.
