oscar wilde traveled to america for the first time in 1882.
despite being a dandesque figure, flamboyant and fey, he was very well received. i don't just mean in new york and polite circles, i'm taking rural america~ the miners & railroad workers were fascinated with him hands down. he was a beloved instant hit.
