TODD SOLONDZ'S new film DARK HORSE premiered at the american cinematheque last night.
scene one started off with a bang featuring a wedding party where awkward adult/child abe,
(jordan gelber) meets his obsession- manic depressive miranda, (SELMA BLAIR).
i found this scene priceless and one of the funniest commentaries on modern day social dysfunction.
the film has some great characters embodied by film legends like
CHRISTOPHER WALKEN & MIA FARROW. selma blair's portrayal of comatose love interest- miranda is equally hysterical, as is donna murphy as the "concerned secretary"- marie.
although there were great one liners, and the darkest of humor that one expects to find in a
todd solondz project, i found this film not living up to solondz's genius of the past.
all~in~all the film flatlined and do i dare say it .... was boring....
for me.
the Q&A with the director- todd solondz was equally "entertaining" and bizarre.
the most absurd questions were asked of him and his answers were comic genius.
Q- "i didn't really understand your film. do you think your actors understood what they were doing?
A~ i never asked them. as long as they did what i wanted it was fine.
