rick castro: the goddess bunny 1985 |
Sandra "Sandie" Crisp (born Johnnie Baima on January 13, 1960,), also known by her stage name The Goddess Bunny, passed away today due to the plague.
The Goddess was as a transgender woman and was born stricken with polio and was subject to the malpractice of multiple doctors resulting in the further disfigurement of her body. She grew up in various foster homes for disabled children. During her childhood, she routinely endured physical and sexual abuse from members of her foster care families largely due to her gender identity and disability.
Sandie Crisp was born on January 13, 1960. She developed polio as a child and has been disabled.
She made her acting debut as Charlean in the 1986 film Hollywood Vice Squad, and made an appearance in the music video for "The Dope Show," (1998) by Marilyn Manson.
During 1985 I created a photographic portrait of the Goddess Bunny which I'm featuring above.
I presented my photo to art photographer Joel-Peter Witkin, who I was working for as an art director/assistant. Joel became so enamored by The Goddess, that was all he would talk about for months until our photoshoot.
I then hired The Goddess to portray Leda in Joel's version of Leda and the Swan. In Joel Witkin's version Leda had a dick. It was amazed how large bunny's dick was! Joel's wife Cynthia made a wig in the style of a Renaissance bun, I did the make up. Bunny had just come back from a visit with her mother, so her hormones had worn off. I used allot of shadow and contour to give the look of cleavage. The Goddess Bunny as Leda, (1996) is part of the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum, Paris.
In 1994, she was the subject of a documentary titled The Goddess Bunny, directed by Nick Bougas.
In 2016, the Goddess ran for mayor of Inglewood. She received 500 votes.
In the 2020 United States presidential election The Goddess announced her candidacy as a write-in candidate for President of the United States.
Due to her severe physical deformity, Sandie became the subject of internet notoriety when a scene from the documentary The Goddess Bunny, which featured her tap dancing video shot by Keith Hollnd was used in Obedece a la morsa (also known as Obey the Walrus), a viral video released in 2005 on eBaum's World and then re-uploaded onto YouTube. Another video featuring the goddess,The Golden One was directed by my friend Glen Meadmore & music by Jan Kleese in 2011.
Despite all odds the Goddess became a legendary cult-figure with millions of hits on youtube and a worldwide fan base.
