BELLUM IS HARSH....... VERY VERY HARSH

To all my foreign friends this sums up what is happening in Italy, please read carefully, I hope it will be helpful.
We are not free to move because the government locked up the whole country last night! Venice was already closed off since saturday. That means we should stay in, at home, and not leave town. And try to go out only for emergencies and food shopping being really careful not to get close to anyone else. So far this is the only way to stop the virus going around, because it is not very lethal as only 4,5- 5 % are dying, but it can turn into a really bad bronchitis for a lot of people, young too, where you need to be attached to a breathing machine, so the number of people who need this treatment is probably going to exceed the number of actual facilities i.e. hospital places, if not already, as we were not prepared for an epidemic like this. I hope we manage to stop it with the only weapon we have that is: to stay isolated. They have been good in Italy telling us the truth from the beginning. Unlike other countries! That is: how contagious this virus is and testing everyone who was feeling sick, in that way they could start treating and isolating people, but there isn't a vaccine nor medicine to fight it, they are experimenting with medicines used for HIV and for other viruses like Ebola. In many cases people get through it and don't end up attached to breathing machines ( the disease, when it doesn't worsen, it acts like a flu: cough, fever, headache). A lot of people have recovered from it. The big problem is to stop it going around....
It is a very strange feeling, like being in a science fiction film. People are going a little crazy because everything is stopping, economics, jobs, shops, restaurants, bars close, tourism stops so no money coming in, the future as far as economics is bleak. Hospitals are overcrowded and prisons are facing uprises by prisoners. This is more or less the situation up to today, Italy is the second country behind China for infected people and deaths, up to yesterday evening: 9172 infected, 463 deaths, recovered 724.
Measures: The only thing you can do is not get in contact with a positive case. The best thing is to stay home. If you have to go out keep a distance of at least one metre from others. The virus is transmitted by droplets from sneezing or coughing, and it stays on objects that have been in contact with the droplets, so what they tell you to do is this: don't touch your face with your hands, wash your hands often, use sanitizers (at least 60 to 70% alcohol) on money, doorknobs, computers, cell phones, etc. Since some people who are positive to the Coronavirus testing are without symptoms but can infect others just the same, it is really a matter of avoiding getting close to people. Some people wear masks in the streets, doctors and nurses definitely have to. We're also told if one knows he/she's been close to someone infected (or someone who comes from countries or areas with high percentage of infected people) they should stay in quarantene at home for at least 2 weeks, and if someone has fever, cough and feels they have been close to someone infected stay in, don't go out nor to ER, call the doctor, ask to get a test.
Here in Italy it is spreading exponentially, partly because people haven't obeyed the recommendations of the doctors and health authorities. Some people seem to think they are immune, because most of the deaths are of elderly persons who have other health problems as well; the schools and Universities have been closed for weeks, along with places like museums and clubs where people meet, sports events are played without spectators, but I think now, since last night, they will not take place any more.
This is all I can say, keep away from groups and stay home as much as possible.
