Leather History
Forty-two years ago-4/10/2018-
THE LEATHER FRATERNITY
a Leather community organization in LA held a slave auction (as in, consensual power exchange relationship, although that term wasn’t in use in 1976 as founding members of PSLOD hadn’t coined it yet)
that was busted by the LAPD.
The event was sponsored by Drummer Magazine.
The location was silverlake, los angeles.
The Leather community mobilized in response to aid the forty-two men arrested and Drummer Magazine bivouacked to a more enlightened San Francisco.
You would think that for a Leather community organization to hold a slave auction for charity today would bring a smile at the recognition of a signal moment in our history and would be completely
non-controversial.
You would think that, but sadly, you would be wrong.
