The Garden Court Apartments in hollywood,ca was a historic apartment building, from 1917. It was vacated in 1980 and torn down in 1984.
It was the home of a number of celebrities in the first forty or so years of its existence, including Clara Bow,Louis B. Mayer and Mack Sennett. Its fortunes declined in the 1960s and 1970s along with those of Hollywood Boulevard in general. After being vacated in 1980, it was inhabited by homeless squatters and nicknamed "Hotel Hell".
It was noted in the National Register of Historic Places on October 21, 1982, with reference number 820004981 and listing status "DO"., However, that did not prevent it from being razed in 1984.
Its architect, Frank Meline, also designed a building that is one of Santa Monica's designated historic landmarks.
According to this 1982 Time magazine story, there was a valiant attempt to save the building from the wrecker's ball, but as the developer interested in demolishing the building put it: "She was a grand lady, but now she's gone. Someone has to pull the plug."

this eye~sore replaced the glamorous garden court apartments.
