I went to a screening of a new film-
Martha Marcy May Marlene, on tuesday- october 18th, 2011.
the film is a study of a young woman's emotional turbulence after leaving a cult.
The film explores the post traumatic stress which nearly unhinges a young woman after her escape from the controlling confines of her “family,” a cult whose members live on a farm in rural New York state.
Written & directed by Sean Durkin. this is his first film. the directing is pro, the writing is classic, the cinematography, (jody lee lipes) is beautiful, eerie and melancholy, Sean Durkin is someone to watch. He will be big.
Elizabeth Olsen portrays Martha, the fragile young woman who is trying to escape the cult. Her acting is extrodinary. The scene of her emotional breakdown @ the family party is a perfect scene. At the end the scene slowly fades away. Like the character. Perfectly acted, directed and shot.
She will be nominated for an oscar.

John Hawkes as the cult leader- Patrick gives a complex, creepy portrayal with hints of charles manson, david koresh and jim jones.
The film has been an audience favorite at festivals, and won several prizes, including Best Director at this year’sSundance Film Festival and the Cannes Prix de la Jeunesse.
see "her" before she fades away............
