The historic columbarium at Hollywood Forever Cemetery is a 1928, two story structure featuring a domed ceiling, hexagonal columns with memorial niches, and a central fountain.
The columbarium is a peaceful, beautiful space specifically designed to feature only cremated remains.
The term columbarium comes from the Latin word for dovecote, as the small compartments (niches) resemble the nesting places for doves, and are only large enough to hold cremation urns.
It is a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and houses the "Columbarium Continuum" exhibition by photographer Rick Castro featuring 113 curated photographs from his vast archive from 1986 thru 2025.
