When “Dykes on Bikes” are allowed to be the opening contingent in many Pride parades, they are asked to identify themselves as “Women’s Cycle Clubs and no longer permitted to be barebreasted.
Leathermen are not permitted to wear bareassed chaps or display actions such as bondage with rope, shackles or chains.
NAMBLA is not welcomed to participate in PRIDE events or activities, nor is discussion allowed of their philosophy.
Bathhouses and sex clubs are discouraged from participating in PRIDE festivals.
LOGO (a Gay cable network) routinely censors language, sexuality and drug use while attempting to represent the “Mainstream Gay and Lesbian Community”.
Promotion of the community’s own Erotic Art Fair Weekend is banned from being promoted at our own Gay & Lesbian Center.
Are we are willing to leave parts of our cultural heritage behind to gain acceptance in the larger culture? What are the tradeoffs? What do we really want?
