THE KLAUS NOMI WARS CONTINUE
(amy will acquire this poster soon)
the klaus nomi debate seems to have no end in site, for the uninitiated let me ,"splain." ....
it all stared when i posted my personal obsession of KLAUS NOMI on this blog. in turn my good friend- AMY BASTIDA told me about her mutual obsession with all things klaus. she then upped the ante and made me a KLAUS NOMI TART from scratch based on klaus's original recipe. it was amazing! from there i reposted my KLAUS NOMI FETISH as part of my 7 current obsessions for BUTTBLOG. that's when the tart really hit the fan!
(amy bastida's scrumptious klaus nomi lemon tart)
i've been inundated will all things klaus and this worldwide KLAUS NOMI fixation, including new info from JOEY ARIAS, (klaus's best friend and co-performer in the classic TVC15 on SNL- circa 1979) stating that a KLAUS NOMI FEATURE FILM is in the works.
(historic TV- joey arias-david bowie-klaus nomi on SNL-circa 1979)
then antebellum artist and viennese icon MATTHIAS HERRMANN told one of his students about amy's tart and the KLAUS NOMI tarte went global... and viral!
(armin lorenz's klaus nomi LIME tarte )
to add a wrench in the recipe MARCUS BASTIDA left a semi-negative comment on facebook about klaus and ALL the KLAUS NOMI FANS became rabid, (including me)
in the meantime, AMY has done her best to produce all things klaus, and joyously dressed her son MAX up as klaus nomi. this posting also went viral.
(max as klaus nomi)
(our control model and icon- saint klaus nomi)
unfortunately marcus's anti-klaus rants have affected max's young mind and now he thinks that klaus nomi is a rip-off!
amy and i begged marcus to post something positive about klaus as a rebuttal, so marcus lacklusterly posted this on buttblog-
Marcus added on February 27, 2010 :
Klaus Nomi is Tops. Rick I support you and Amy in your mutual Nomi obsession.
"sorry marcus, but that sounds insincere.. at this point i cannot defend you from the swarm of NOMI'S that are asking for you head & shoulder pads on a silver platter."
i am doing my best to referee the KLAUS NOMI WARS ,
i will now post these incredible image of deviant artist- O---U-R-SICK
notes from O---U-R-SICK regarding costume:
The V-shaped piece and the skirt are homemade. The black parts were made from a thick fabric which was lined with interfacing, reinforced with wire, and then painted with Verathane.
The gloves were purchased at a dollar store.
The boots and the black long-sleeved t-shirt were found at thrift stores.
The black leggings belong to my roommate.
Hair and make-up: me. (I shaved off my eyebrows)
These shots were actually taken on two different days. I wasn't quite satisfied with the first attempt, so I shaved back my hairline even further, and did some re-contouring of my face using make-up. I added a cleft to my chin, and defined my cheekbones

and to further a positive discourse i am now organizing the first ever KLAUS NOMI TART CONTEST @ antebellum gallery.
the contest will take place around july 3rd, so start practicing your klaus nomi tart skills...
i am now reposting the recipe courtesy of amy bastida based on klaus nomi's original recipe-
Three Easy Steps:
Step 1. The crust. You need a 9 inch pie pan to make the tart in. To make the crust, you need 1 1/4 cups fine graham cracker crumbs, 1/3rd cup brown sugar, and 1/4 melted butter. You mix these ingredients together and shape the crust into the pie pan. (Klaus mentions that it may not seem like the crust will hold together, but if you pack it tightly enough and when it sits over nite, it should hold). Klaus also cautions about making the crust too sweet – you may not need to use as much brown sugar.
Step 2. The filling. You need 4 eggs, 1 can sweetened condensed milk (Klaus used Borden’s condensed milk), and 1/2 cup lime juice- First you want to separate your eggs; place yolks in one bowl and whites in the other bowl…Klaus uses the egg shell to actually separate the whites from the yolk by putting the yolk on one side of the cracked shell and letting the whites drip in to a separate bowl. Take your bowl with the egg yolks and add the sweetened condensed milk and lime juice. Mix together….Then, in your bowl with the egg whites, you want to whip them until the whites are very, very stiff. Once the whites are stiff it dramatically increases in volume, you slowly fold the whites into the other bowl. Once mixed together, place the filling into the crust.
Step 3. Take lime peel and cut it into thin strips. Place the lime peel on top of the pie. This has two purposes; a beautiful presentation but also for flavor. The zest really adds a punch to the taste and is meant to be eaten. Then place the tart into the refrigerator for at least several hours, but overnight is recommended. The firmer the tart, the easier to cut and better consistency.
And Amy’s own added 4th step: cut out a paper heart and paste a photo of Klaus in his honor to adorn your tart. A toothpick glued behind the paperheart will nicely hold up your tribute to Klaus Nomi.
