everyone was in such a good mood, except perhaps for me...
curating can be a real strain, and very stressful. the combination of artists & potheads makes for a very mañana attitude, if you know what i mean...... never-the-less, fun was held by all, including an exhausted gallery owner.

Jazz Age Normandie Hotel may roar again as ‘pot-tel’


Marijuana advocates are renovating the aging Koreatown building, starting with Room 420.
: L.A.'s first hotel billing itself as pot-friendly

The Hotel Normandie, a stoic brick building weighing down a corner of Normandie Avenue and 6th Street, opened in the Roaring '20s as an elegant residence, promising in tasteful advertisements to "leave nothing to be desired by the most experienced and exacting."

Tuesday night, the hotel will host another grand opening, for a very different, experienced and exacting clientele: pot smokers.

The aging Koreatown edifice has been rechristened Dennis Peron's Normandie Hotel, and the late-night event was timed for April 20, the annual day of celebration for cannabis worshippers worldwide.

Peron, a hero to the marijuana movement, started the first dispensary in San Francisco and led the state's medical marijuana initiative. Now, he and a team of weed-loving friends hope to turn the 106-room Normandie into America's first pot-friendly hotel. READ MORE-

At art shows, there always comes a moment when you come across a particularly wacky piece, and wonder "Damn, what was that guy, high?" Well, now you've got your answer: the Cannabis as Art show.

Opening on... wait for it... 4/20(!), Cannabis As Art's a collection of toke-worthy pieces covering the range of stonerdom, from flat-out munchie-ridden psychedelia to political commentary to shamanism, all curated by a guy inspired by herb's potential all-out legalization in November, which he thinks will inevitably pass, so you know he's stoned. Pieces range from paintings to sculptures to, well, pieces, with some of the more interesting work including an Elmo-like puppet that's made to look like a budding plant made by one of the mastermind musicians in GWAR, to an 8x10 sheet made of Zig Zags w/ a Renaissance-style drawing of Saturn The Nymph (obv), to an all-mahogany pipe shaped like a vagina, w/ the clitoris acting as a bowl, suggesting that it does exist. Other stoneyness includes a hand-drawn "Marijuana God" who resembles an Aztec Bob Marley; a computer-generated face composed entirely of pot leaves, and pieces from a Pittsburghian who does portraits of famous potheads made entirely out of spent roaches, but not Papa Roaches, 'cause the dude's not desperate.

The opening party costs $10 and is gonna include live music, an in-costume appearance from that GWAR guy, and...um...other stuff, which leads to another pressing question: "Are you a cop?"

sorry, i'm for free speech and all, but i find this downtown rally disgusting and scary!

A white supremacist group rallied against illegal immigration in downtown Los Angeles Saturday as hundreds of counter-protesters gathered to shout them down in a tense standoff that included several arrests, thrown rocks and police in riot gear.

Police officers stood between the white supremacists and counter-demonstrators on the south lawn of Los Angeles' City Hall, where about 50 members of the National Socialist Movement waved American flags and swastika banners for about an hour.

i also find it disturbing that you cannot tell the white supremacists from the police!

SEX HOTEL FOR ANIMALS!?

WFT! talk about animal husbandry... this story takes it to a different level-

A guy in rural washington state has been arrested for running what authorities say appears to be a bestiality farm in Washington state in which visitors could engage in all sorts of twisted sex acts with animals.

Douglas Spink was arrested at his ramshackle, heavily wooded compound near the Canadian border in Whatcom County along with a 51-year-old tourist from Great Britain who is accused of having sex with three dogs.

Dozens of dogs, horses and pet mice were seized, along with what investigators described as thousands of images of bestiality and apparent child pornography. The mice were euthanized, said Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo, whose office assisted federal agents in the case.

"This stuff is just truly bizarre," he said. "These were mice that had their tails cut off, they were smothered in Vaseline and they had string tied around them."

MALCOLM MCLAREN IS DEAD

the original BUFFALO GUY is RIP.
Malcolm mclaren, former manager of THE NEW YORK DOLLS, creator of the SEX PISTOLS, punk rock, ex-lover/partner to VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, opened the first punk rock/fetish shop called SEX, creator of the BUFFALO GIRLS, discovered BOW-WOW-WOW, inspired the NEW ROMANTIC look, and numerous other trends has left the building.

according to the new york times- his companion of many years, Young Kim, confirmed that Mr. McLaren died on Thursday, and said he died of mesothelioma at a hospital in Switzerland.

In the 1970s, Mr. McLaren returned to his native London from New York, where he had briefly managed the New York Dolls in the waning days of that band’s initial flush of fame. With his business partner and girlfriend at the time, Vivienne Westwood, they renamed their clothing shop Sex, and Mr. McLaren set about putting together his own rock act of untested British youth, which became the Sex Pistols.

McLaren's British agent, Les Molloy, said he had been suffering from cancer for some time but could not give a cause of death. He said McLaren died in New York but could not provide details. READ MORE-

my good friend from high-school- eric heins- sent me these pics from our junior prom!- circa 1975.
i remember i invited joyce as my date, i liked her because she was flat-chested. i then hooked-up eric with her best friend, (i forgot her name) they did not hit it off.. there was no love connection. after our uneventful prom we took our dates to the sugar shack in north hollywood. the gay bar where cherry currie used to hang out with joan jett.

Cannabis has long been used for fiber (hemp), for medicinal purposes, and as a recreational drug.

Medical use-
there has been considerable interest in its use for the treatment of a number of conditions, including glaucoma, AIDS wasting, neuropathic pain, treatment of spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea. A recent study has also concluded that cannabinoids found in Cannabis might have the ability to prevent Alzheimer's disease. THC has been shown to reduce arterial blockages.
Currently he FDA does facilitate scientific investigations into the medical uses of cannabis.

Recreational use-
Cannabis is a popular recreational drug around the world, only behind alcohol, caffeine and tobacco.
In the United States alone, it is believed that over 100 million Americans have tried Cannabis, with an additional 25 million Americans using it within the past year.
According to the UK medical journal The Lancet, Cannabis has a lower rate of dependence compared to both nicotine and alcohol, and any Cannabis withdrawal symptoms are typically mild and are never life-threatening.

Religious use-
Cannabis has being referred to in India as "food of the gods", eventually becoming a ritual part of the Hindu festival of Holi.
In Buddhism, cannabis has been used in meditation and regarded as a holy plant since 500 BC. Shamanic use of Cannabis in China has been dated to at least 1000 BC.
Anointing oils mentioned in Exodus are said to contain Cannabis. Sufis have used Cannabis in a spiritual context since the thirteenth century.
In modern times the Rastafari movement has embraced Cannabis as a sacrament.
