last night i attended the 14 ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF FILM NOIR @
THE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE.

the wine was flowing, the cheese was spread and the audience dressed to the nine's in their finest 40s attire.

the screening of the 1949 version of THE GREAT GATSBY, was superb. what a buried treasure!
it's ironic how alan ladd embodied the role without being much to look at.. his body was underdeveloped, tummy flabby and he was proudly doubled chined, yet he was right on the mark as jay gatsby.
i can't even compare him to robert redford who had the looks, but nothing more.
shelly winters as myrtle wilson, (played by karen black in the 1974 version) was perfection on film, but of course she always was.
