AND THE RECALL BEGINS
MESA, Ariz. — Activists seeking to recall the Arizona state senator who was the driving force behind the state's recent anti-illegal immigration measures say they're confident they will gather enough signatures.
Volunteers with Citizens for a Better Arizona official said Tuesday they already have two-thirds of the 7,756 verified signatures required by May 31 to set a recall election for Republican RUSSELL PEARCE, who is the president of the Arizona Senate.
Activists in the heavily Republican district in suburban Mesa began the campaign in January. They have been courting the support of Pearce's base, mostly Republicans and Mormons.
Group chairman Chad Snow says reports that the Fiesta Bowl paid for Pearce to travel to out-of-state college football games have prompted a backlash and are helping to fuel the campaign.
my longtime readers may recall that i blogged about
FRAU-RUSSELL PEARCE awhle ago and exposed him as a neonazi... here are the postings-

MY LITTLE FOODIE
CHEAP EATS: Coachella Ceviche Tostadas
If you have a lemon tree, or like us, a neighbor’s tree that hangs into your yard, you might enjoy this recipe that uses lemons. It is also appropriate for those observing meatless meals for Lent. My good friend Diana Garcia, born in Coachella, made these Ceviche tostadas for our family.
Ingredients:
1lb. Imitation Crab meat, shredded
1lb. shrimp, deveined, tails removed, and chopped
2 avocados, chopped
½ red onion, chopped
1 lrg. Pinch of fresh cilantro, chopped
¼ c. soy sauce
1 ½ c. ketchup
Juice of 5 lemons
4 large pickled jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped (optional)
2 T. Tapatio sauce (optional)
1 pkg. tostada shells
Combine fish and wet ingredients and refrigerate for one hour, or up to overnight. Serve on prepared tostada shells.
If you shop at Winco as I did, the recipe will cost less than $15.00. Add $1 if you have to buy your lemons. It will make about 15-20 ceviche tostadas.

FRED SLATTEN
who remembers FRED SLATTEN SHOES?
an incredible shoe shop on santa monica blvd, near larabee in west hollywood. i remember, (like it was yesterday) going into fred slatten sometime during 1975. while walking down SMB i spotted the most amazing hand-made platform shoes and made a beeline for the door. i saved up for months to purchase a pair of brownish platforms that i wore everyday for one year.
many years later, i found out that my dear freind- the late/great
MUNDO MEZA used to hand-paint the designs for fred.
these shoes are classic 1970s vintage. if you're lucky enough to still have a pair, hold on to them. they are priceless.

CERRITOS AIR DISASTER
who remembers the cerritos airplane crash of 1986?
i remember like it was yesterday.
Aeroméxico Flight 498, en route from Mexico City, Mexico to Los Angeles International Airport, Los Angeles, California, United States on August 31, 1986.
N4891F was a privately-operated Piper PA-28-181 Archer owned by the Kramer family en route from Torrance to Big Bear City, California. The two aircraft collided in mid-air over Cerritos, California, killing all 67 aboard both aircraft and 15 people on the ground. In addition, 8 persons on the ground sustained minor injuries from the crash.
The Piper aircraft, N4891F, with the pilot and two passengers aboard, had departed Torrance, California at approximately 11:40 PST. At approximately 11:46, Flight 498 began its descent into Los Angeles with 58 passengers and six crew members aboard. At 11:52, the Piper's engine collided with the left horizontal stabilizer of the DC-9, shearing off the top of the Piper's cockpit and decapitating the pilot and both passengers.[citation needed] The heavily-damaged Piper fell onto an empty playground at Cerritos Elementary School.
The DC-9 inverted and fell to the earth in a residential neighborhood at Holmes Avenue and Reva Circle in Cerritos, killing 15 on the ground and all 64 passengers and crew. The impact and fire destroyed five houses and damaged seven more. A fire sparked by the crash contributed significantly to the damage. When the air traffic controller assigned to Flight 498 could not find the aircraft on the radar, he called up an inbound American Airlines jet for assistance. The pilot on American Airlines Flight 333 replied that he saw a large smoke plume off to his left, indicating that Flight 498 had crashed.
On March 11, 2006, the City of Cerritos dedicated a new sculpture garden featuring a memorial to the victims of the accident. As part of the sculpture is a bench which also allows visitors to sit and reflect on the disaster.

THE FLAUTLINE WILL BE CLOSED FOR ONE MONTH!
this is a repost from SHAWN DADDY owner of the FAULTLINE-
The Faultline got caught with its pants down (literally) about a month ago, and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) came down hard on us last week with a mandatory 30-day closure as penalty.
We’re closing down as of this coming Monday, April 11, for one month and reopening (if all goes well) May 14/15 with a wonderful double bill of Brutus and the postponed and much anticipated L.A. Leather Lot Party.
I want to express my appreciation for the supportive comments we have received regarding this situation. But, I also want to emphasize clearly that this closure is an edict of the ABC and it has nothing to do with LAPD “police harassment”. I don’t believe it has anything to do with ABC harassment either, particularly.
Jerry Brown’s election signals the first major regime change in Sacramento in a decade. The ABC, like all public service agencies in California these days, is faced with proving its viability to the budget committees of the state government. You may have noticed heightened ABC activity in the L.A. local news lately with regard to several high profile dance clubs in Hollywood not having appropriate licensing, etc. In my humble opinion, this is all part of the current environment regarding the state budget more than anything else.
We’re not gonna debate moral principles here –we violated the rules and we’re getting spanked for it. To gay-male community standard’s, the actual evidence of “lewd conduct” in our case would seem almost benign. However, the ABC is responsible for enforcing rules for everybody, and, as far as I’m aware, the specific conduct we have been chastened for would be seen as outrageous in any straight club.
Nonetheless, my interaction with the ABC and indeed with LAPD vice, which assisted the ABC’s investigation of the activity in question and serving the charges, has been cordial and respectful throughout. At no time have I experienced “attitude” or any kind of personal judgment, other than the indictment itself.
We hope you’ll keep your ear to the ground for our reopening in May, and we fully expect to come back even better and more fully committed to serving your entertainment expectations than ever.
we’ll see you soon.
Best regards, as always,
and Thanks!
Shawn daddy ;)~

angela davis- UCLA- circa- 1970

Put on the FBI's 'Most Wanted' list when she was just 26, Angela Davis became an enduring symbol of 1970's Black Power.
She joins Inside USA, (2008) to discuss incarceration in the land of the free, capitalism in a time of economic crisis and what it means to be the face of Black Power in a supposedly post-racial US.

ANGELA DAVIS
(born January 26, 1944) is an American political activist, scholar, and author.
Davis was most politically active during the late 1960s through the 1970s and was associated with the Communist Party USA, the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panther Party. Prisoner rights have been among her continuing interests; she is the founder of "Critical Resistance", an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex. She is presently a retired professor with the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz and is the former director of the university's Feminist Studies department.
Her research interests are in feminism, African American studies, critical theory, Marxism, popular music and social consciousness, and the philosophy and history of punishment and prisons.
Her membership in the Communist Party led to Ronald Reagan's request in 1969 to have her barred from teaching at any university in the State of California. She was tried and acquitted of suspected involvement in the Soledad brothers' August 1970 abduction and murder of Judge Harold Haley in Marin County, California.
She was twice a candidate for Vice President on the Communist Party USA ticket during the 1980s. In the early 1990s she moved from party communism to other forms of political commitment, and she has identified herself as a democratic socialist.

JEAN GENET
Un Chant d'Amour- 1950
JEAN GENET
(December 19, 1910 – April 15, 1986) was a prominent and controversial French novelist, playwright, poet, essayist, and political activist. Early in his life he was a vagabond and petty criminal, but later took to writing.
His major works include the novels Querelle of Brest, The Thief's Journal, and Our Lady of the Flowers, and the plays The Balcony, The Blacks, The Maids and The Screens.
Genet directed Un Chant d'Amour, (A Song of Love) his only film, which he directed in 1950. Because of its explicit (though artistically presented) homosexual content, the 26-minute movie was long banned and even disowned by Genet later in his life.
The plot is set in a French prison, where a prison guard takes voyeuristic pleasure in observing the prisoners perform masturbatory sexual acts. In two adjacent cells, there is an older Algerian-looking man and a handsome convict in his twenties. The older man is in love with the younger one, rubbing himself against the wall and sharing his cigarette smoke with his beloved through a straw.
The prison guard, apparently jealous of the prisoner's relationship, enters the older convict's cell, beats him, and makes him suck on his gun in an unmistakably sexual fashion. However, the inmate drifts off into a fantasy where he and his object of desire roam the countryside. In the final scene, it becomes clear that the guard's power is no match for the intensity of attraction between the prisoners, even though their relationship is not consummated.
Genet does not use dialogue in his film, but focuses instead on close-ups of bodies, on faces, armpits, and penises. The film's highly sexualized atmosphere has been recognized as a formative factor for works such as the films of Andy Warhol.
