ROBERT OPEL STREAKS THE 1974 ACADEMY AWARDS

during the 1974 academy awards presentation, as david niven was introducing elizabeth taylor~
ROBERT OPEL intruruped him with the most famous streaking of all times.
as opel ran naked past David Niven flashing a peace sign an seemingly
Unfazed, Niven turned to the audience and quipped,
"Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen... But isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"
Later, some evidence arose suggesting that Opel's appearance was facilitated by the show's producer Jack Haley, Jr. as a stunt. Robert Metzler, the show's business manager, believed that the incident had been planned in some way. During the dress rehearsal, Niven had asked Metzler's wife to borrow a pen so he could write down the famous ad-lib. Opel apparently had to cut through an expensive seamless background curtain in order to reach the stage.
weather or not the streaking was planned is one of the many disputes and public performance art that robert was to create for the rest of his short life.

the audience with such notables as linda blair, lee majors, farah fawcett, paul newman, robert redford, francis ford coppella and william peter blatty give out shrieks of enjoyment.
unlike david niven, it took elizabeth taylor awhile to recover as she announced best picture results.
after working as a photographer for the ADVOCATE, THE STAR, FINGER & DRUMMER magazines... after appearing nude at the Los Angeles city council commission hearing about public nudity... after being arrested and spending time in LA jail, robert moved to san francisco and opened the world's first homoerotic/fetish art gallery called~ FEY WAY.
for only one year, ( march 1978 thru  july 1979) robert & fey way studios presented the best of erotic art from the era that created the fetish revolution.
two years later robert was dead.
