DICK LEAVES HIS DOG IN HOT CAR

there was this dick, (as in asshole) who left his, (i'm assuming it's a guy, because i can't imagine a woman being so callus to an animal)  dog in his  KIA SUV on las palmas ave in hollywood today.
this was in the late afternoon when the temperature was 90 degrees... which means it was about 120 in the car! if you've ever seen these videos where pets die in unattended vehicles you would understand my concern.  according to vets  five or 10 minutes" is all it
takes on a hot day for a dog to wind up organ-damaged or dead.

the poor dog was howling & panting like crazy... this is how i became aware of him in the first place. i was  @ antebellum gallery on the phone, and kept hearing a howling dog... i thought i was imagining this.... after a long while i went out to investigate and this is what i found~

i poured a jar of water thru the small crack in the window and the sweetie devoured it.

then some of my friends came by for happy hour and i told them about the abandoned pet.
they were incensed, (they are dog owners) and called the police. the police came,
(quickly i might add) but said that the animal would have to be in a traumatic state for them to break the window. i guess they meant like near death... because this poor little thing had be howling for 45 minutes. at this point a crowd began to gather. my neighbors @ SADIE'S CAFE across the street came out and each person, from manager to busboy, gave the dog water, a cool towel, and company.

when i left the gallery there was still no sight of the driver. it was well over two hours.
i will keep my dear readers posted as to what transpires.

UPDATE~
according to my friend, "the cops came back to make a second round  just as the people returned to their car. Two young and dumb kids. Cops wrote them a citation that they'll have to appear in court for!
Hopefully they learn!"

HIPPOCAMPUS

The hippocampus is a major component of the brains of humans and other vertebrates. It belongs to the limbic system and plays important roles in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory and spatial navigation. Humans and other mammals have two hippocampi, one in each side of the brain. The hippocampus is a part of the cerebral cortex; and in primates it is located in the medial temporal lobe, underneath the cortical surface.

The earliest description of the HIPPOCAMPUS- IE: the ridge running along the floor of the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle comes from the Venetian anatomist Julius Caesar Aranzi (1587), who likened it first to a  seahorse (Latinhippocampus from Greek: ἵππος, "horse" and κάμπος, "coiled").

THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK @ ANTEBELLUM

last nights 16mm screening of THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK was amazing!

film collector BOB SIDES  presented us with a perfect 16mm print projected from his 1958 projector with built in sound!
this was a two reeler, so it allowed us time to stretch our legs, chat....AND DRINK!.

this film is an absolute cult classic with an amazingly eerie piano score, and german expressionistic cinematography. the design of JEREMY, the brain within the robot monster was incredibly modern & gothic, looking like something gareth pugh or rick owens would've designed.
especially loved his boots...

the story is of the frankenstein genre... classic mad/genius scientist experimenting with the human, brain, soul- without a body. also reminiscent of THE GOLEM, classic~ 1915- german expressionistic silent horror flick.

the colossus of new york has it's own unique eerieness, from the single piano score, the film credit graphics~ "rising from the hudson," and an especially bizarre scene where JEREMY calls his human son in the woods.....

note~ blogger- "shockotheclown," labeled his video- "the iron pedophile."
i wish he hadn't, because this is very rare footage to come by and demeans the film.

antebellum cinema enthusiast LELAND BARD treated us to some amazing backstory about the screenwriter~
THELMA SCHEELEN

leland bard meet a nice young man on new years eve- 1975. ironically his name was also leland.
they spent the night @ leland's apartment on el centro, directly next to LELAND WAY.
the next morning leland met  leland's mother- THELMA SCHEELEN on January 1, 1976.
That was coincidentally the day that Los Angeles woke to see the Hollywood Sign altered to read “Hollyweed.”  And by further coincidence, there was a 4.2 magnitude earthquake on the Whittier Fault that morning – very jarring in Hollywood.  Though my encounter with Thelma was brief, the earthquake made it extremely impressive.  We were chatting at length and she gradually moved the conversation from the dining room, where her son, (also named  Leland) was setting up the table for brunch, north toward the living room of his apartment [El Centro south of Sunset – near Leland Way, ironically].  We stood in the archway between the two rooms and – rumble, rumble, RUMBLE – silence – the earthquake came and went.  I wanted SO much to ask if she had anticipated the earthquake and moved into a doorway, as was recommended then - !  But – the conversation took precedence.

Thelma  scheelen went on to study and experiment with LSD, ESP, receive a United Nations award, ghost-hunting, and a faculty post at UCLA in parapsychology. this is after a  long Broadway career and after writing “ The Colossus of New York”
