WHAT IS GOING ON IN WEHO?- UPDATE

I AM SO HAPPY TO REPOST THIS INFORMATION-

RALLY IN WEST HOLLYWOOD

Monday, February 7 · 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Location On Monday February 7th, 2011 at 6:00 pm, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd, 90069, the West Hollywood

is the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair no longer welcome in West Hollywood??!

The Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair was told it will not be endorsed by the West Hollywood Arts and Cultural Heritage Commission. The Commission listened to a presentation from the Tom of Finland Foundation and then voted unanimously against endorsement of the fair, breaking eight years of previous support.

On Thursday, January 27th, 2011 the Arts and Cultural Heritage Commission of the City of West Hollywood met at City Hall and rejected a request for endorsement from the Tom of Finland Foundation in support of the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair.

The art fair has been held in the City of West Hollywood since 2003, receiving the City’s endorsement each year. This action was an unexpected and radical departure from the City’s previous backing of the event.

The chair of the Commission, Whitney Weston, appointed by Councilmember Jeffery Prang is reported to have called the event, "Distasteful" and "offensive to children.” She went on to say that it makes her "uncomfortable" and it "always has made me uncomfortable" and that West Hollywood "would not support it."

The Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair is scheduled to be held in a fully enclosed auditorium at 657 N. San Vicente. As always, the doors will be monitored and no one will be admitted without showing identification showing that they are at least 18 years old. The site of the event is on West Hollywood Park property, but it is fully enclosed. It will be impossible to enter the event without having full knowledge of the content of the event and being of age.

By all reports the West Hollywood City Council is prepared to vote in favor of allowing the fair to go forward, but it is important to note that it is doing so without the endorsement of the City’s official body guiding the Art and Culture of the City of West Hollywood.

We must speak out now if we want these attitudes to change.

There are three ways to do it:

1) email the City Council ccouncil@weho.org
2) snail mail the City Council 8300 Santa Monica Blvd, WH, CA 90069
3) attend the City Council meeting and/or speak at the meeting.
647 N. San Vicente Blvd, 90069 – Mon 2/7/11 6pm.

On Monday February 7th, 2011 at 6:00 pm, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd, 90069, the West Hollywood City Council will vote on an item prepared by staff reportedly supporting the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair. Ask them to support the item. The Council Agenda will be posted on www.weho.org Thursday 2/3/11 after 4:00 pm.

It is important to let the City Council know that the actions of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Commission are offensive and inconsistent with the City’s number one stated core value of
“Respect and Support for People. We recognize and celebrate the diversity of our community by treating all individuals with respect for their personal dignity and providing a wide array of specialized services.” http://www.weho.org/index.aspx?page=464

The City of West Hollywood officials do not understand that we are family and that many of us see this as an attack on a family member. Let them know that.

The City of West Hollywood officials do not understand that Tom’s art has been shown all over the world including New York, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Finland. Let them know.

The City of West Hollywood officials do not understand that what we do as leather/kinky people is as sacred to us as the rites practiced by religious people. We deserve the same respect. Tom’s illustrations gave voice to those rites. Let them know that.

The City of West Hollywood officials do not understand that we live and work in the West Hollywood Community. Let them know that.

The City of West Hollywood officials do not understand that the leather code is “Trust, Honor, and Respect.” Let them know that.

MARIA'S LAST TANGO

MARIA SCHNEIDER, the French actress whose sex scenes with Marlon Brando in
“LAST TANGO IN PARIS” set a new standard for explicitness on screen, died on Thursday in Paris. She was 58.

A spokesman for her agency, Act 1, said she had died after a long illness but provided no other details.

Schneider performed numerous full-frontal nude scenes in Last Tango in Paris, which were controversial at the time.

In a 2007 interview with the Daily Mail, Schneider described Last Tango in Paris director Bernardo Bertolucci: "He was fat and sweaty and very manipulative, both of Marlon and myself, and would do certain things to get a reaction from me." As for her working relationship with Brando, she said that, while their relationship on the set was paternal, it was Brando who came up with the "butter scene" and it was only known to her just before filming it:
"I should have called my agent or had my lawyer come to the set because you can't force someone to do something that isn't in the script, but at the time, I didn't know that. Marlon said to me: 'Maria, don't worry, it's just a movie,' but during the scene, even though what Marlon was doing wasn't real, I was crying real tears. I felt humiliated and to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci. After the scene, Marlon didn't console me or apologise. Thankfully, there was just one take."

She and Brando remained friends until his death, although they did not speak of the movie "for a while." She also said that her experience with the film — and her treatment as a sex symbol rather than as a serious actress — motivated her to never do films with nude scenes again. Schneider also appeared in films such as The Passenger and Jane Eyre.

Schneider was born Marie Christine Gélin, the daughter of French actor Daniel Gélin and Romanian-born Marie-Christine Schneider, who ran a bookstore in Paris. In 1974, Schneider came out as bisexual.

In early 1976, she abandoned the film set of Caligula and checked herself into a mental hospital in Rome for several days with a woman she described as her lover.

The 1970s were turbulent years for Schneider, marked by drug addiction, overdoses, and a suicide attempt. By the 1980s, however, she had turned her life around:
"I was very lucky — I lost many friends to drugs — but I met someone in 1980 who helped me stop. I call this person my angel and we've been together ever since. I don't say if it's a man or a woman. That's my secret garden. I like to keep it a mystery."

"I had to think about what to say about Maria and I will just say this: she was, like myself, exploited in a sexual manner that she never fully came to grips with. I will miss my good friend. Godspeed."

THE DEL RUBIO TRIPLETS

my longtime pal- ALLEE WILLIS has come up with a wonderful jester for
MILLE DE RUBIO- the last remaing sister from the
DEL RUBIO TRIPLETS.
she is collecting valentine's for millie!

i have a fond memory of hiring the del rubio's in front of a convelesent home on fairfax in 1985.
they performed at my, "TOO MUCH MAKE-UP PARTY" later that year... they were incredible!!
the theme of the party was - wear too much make-up.. as much as you could put on.
the guest list-
michele lamy, richard newton, marisol garcia. arnie lenolin,
michi tomimatsu, santiago garza, vaginal davis, jayne county,
fertile la toya jackson, rick owens, iris parker. valerie mackintosh, lydia schiffera, glen meadmore, lipsinka,
pricilla hazlewood, gislan, richard wanda, (rip) sal, (rip) & salad bee.

The Del Rubio Triplets were an American variety/musical act who rose to notoriety in the 1980s due mostly to their campy style of dress and their goofy interpretations of standards and songs of the era.
The Del Rubio triplets were born as the Boyd triplets (Edith, Elena and Mildred Boyd) in 1921 in the Panama Canal Zone. The girls grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and Washington, D.C.. Their stage name comes from the color they dyed their hair; the word "rubio" means "blond" in Spanish.
Grammy winning songwriter Allee Willis is credited with discovering the Del Rubio Triplets in 1985 and presenting them at her parties where they garnered much notable attention.
Their biggest "hit" was an acoustic-guitar cover version of the song "Whip It" by Devo.

They made various television appearances such as Married... with Children (as cousins of Peggy), Full House, The Golden Girls (called the Donatello Triplets on the show), Night Court and Pee-wee's Playhouse wearing bouffant hair-dos and gaudy blue eyeshadow. They often appeared scantily clad (usually showing off their legs) despite the fact that they were in their sixties at the time. They are often remembered for their contribution of "Winter Wonderland" to the Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special that originally aired in 1988. They also briefly appeared in the motion picture Americathon, playing "America the Beautiful" behind several posing bodybuilders.

The three performed until Eadie was diagnosed with cancer in 1996; she died that year at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California. After her death Elena and Milly never again performed but lived together for five years until Elena died of cancer in 2001. Elena and Eadie are interred in a family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California next to their father.
Since the death of Elena Del Rubio, Milly has remained in the San Pedro, California home that they all shared together.

Please help allie collect Valentine's Day cards to send to the last surviving Del Rubio Triplet, Milly. The Del Rubios were
THE musical kitsch combo of the 20th Century.

Send cards NOW to Milly Del Rubio, c/o
Allee Willis, 11684 Ventura Blvd., Suite 430, Studio City, CA 91604
(please send by february 7th!)

HYPOCRACY IN THE NEWS

PJ Crowley, the spokesman for the US state department, has been talking to Al Jazeera about the recent protests in Egypt and Tunisia.

He says the US supports social reform and more freedoms in Egypt, yet at the same time supports the government of President Hosni Mubarak.
Crowley describes Egypt as "an ally and friend of the United States, an anchor of stability in the Middle East which is helping us pursue a comprehensive peace in the Middle East".
"We want to see change in Egypt, we want to see it done peacefully and stably."
