RICK TAKES A TRAIN TRIP

JAN 3RD, 2010

i go to pick up raymond @ work- LOS OJOS BAR.

i walked... beautiful snow... walk past raymond's neighbors, which is a priests retreat. for priests that need to be away from urban areas and are in desperate need of retreat, rest & reconciliation, (if you know what i mean). nobody is there that i could tell... then past the nunnery called- HANDMAIDENS OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD. they have a meditation path that i like to call THE NUN WALK, a long marked straight & narrow trail where you contemplate life and your sins. at the beginning of the nun walk is the SISTER CEMETERY, a graveyard for all the little nuns that have pasted on to be with their father. raymond's friend luanna told me her catechism teacher is buried there... small town.

(handmaids of the precious blood- nunnery)

as i'm walking midway down the nun walk. suddenly all these church bells go off! ringing, ringing , ringing- perhaps the nunnies are upset that i am an intruder on the premises? i am in all black so perhaps from their gilded tower i look like the black crow beelzebub come to tease & taunt them. i just keep walking.. i figure that by the time the local police responds to all the bell ringing i'll be long gone.

i'm now in downtown jemez, population 225. the first time i was here in 2006, the pop was 125... so apparently allot of fornicating has been going on.

raymond works @ the LOS OJOS BAR, (named one of the top ten bars of america by esquire magazine!?) a real classic bar- straight out of the old west. allot of natural wood, tree stump bar stools.. high on atmosphere, good, strong drinks, ok food and allot of local characters.

raymond is not done with his shift so i go across the street to the JEMEZ MOUNTAIN INN, run by luanna & paul. they are a real fun couple. apparently they came up here about 15 years ago and the desk clerk @ the time would not allow them to stay. who knows why, perhaps because they were a mixed race couple, or too hippy radical, or too swinger, or too free spirit, for whatever the reason they were denied a room. as they were leaving paul noticed the business was for sale. a month or so later paul came back and was pleased to tell the desk-clerk. " guess what?" i am now the new owner of jemez mountain B&B. you're fired."

(the jemez mountain inn)

i go back across the street to los ojos with luanna, paul and their german friend ingrid. she is very sweet, ingrid is from hamburg and moved to jemez springs recently after her husband passed away from cancer. apparently he was a real good- looker,

ingrid gives me 3 chocolate pigs for good luck. one for raymond, one for tim and one for me. i give them the flesh colored pigs and keep the black chocolate pig for myself. i still have it!

at the los ojos bar were are having a blast. raymond's friend's a cute couple called vicki-vicki and her BF mike join us and we are just chatting it up.

mike is native apache & cherokee and is in a band called TRANSFRICTION. he gave me a CD so we'll see what it's like.

raymond is now off work, he goes back home to put on his little "costume" i am taking him to high tea @ st frances tearoom in albq. i found it online.
we say our good-byes to all the jemezians and are off- down the mountain to albq....

finally i have cell phone reception. i'm now trying to call the st james tea room to make a reservation.. and no luck, not only can i not get a reservation, the tearoom is closed on sundays!
i am so depressed that we will not be having tea, and raymond & i are wearing our finest tea attire!

(old town- albq)
we meet raymond's BF- tim in old town and i break the bad news.. he is nonplused , even though he's wearing his best
BEN SHERMAN pull over shirt.

the three of us mill around old town trying to find an alternative, and it is freezing outside.. it's difficult to find a replacement for a proper high- tea.

we duck into a little bakery called THE DOUGHMAN... low & behold we have found a bastion of homos, ( all of 2) right in the middle of old-town albq.

so the doughman becomes our little high- tea replacement. the tea is bagged, but the bread pudding is excellent.

when we get back to the van the battery is dead. raymond left the lights on... i don't understand this since it's the middle of the day and very bright. i guess it's an albq custom. it seems to be very common place here to have car trouble.

luckily tim met us there in his own car so he gives us a jump.

raymond & i then head off to nob hill. the more trendy part of albq. we visit a shop that is an albq equivalent of wacko, ( in silverlake) and then this quaint, by overpriced antique shop called MORNINGSIDE ANTIQUES- run by this cute, but high-strung gay named christian. they do have some great pieces. i purchased a scarf. i will wear it every day.

(morningside antiques- owner- christian- he's a ghost figure!)

then raymond takes me to GARCIA'S for dinner. an authentic NEW mexican style restaurant. very good food, very local, very lowbrow. just the way i like it.

(garcia's kitchen)

tim finally joins us much later. he claims he was held up at b dalton bookstore because some young native was following him in the bookstore, then to his truck. then jumped into the passenger seat and begged to give him a blow job..... tim says the only way he could get him out of the truck was to take his phone# and promise to hook up with him later. i'm not sure if this is an accurate account of what happened, but i'm beginning to think that all of albq is gay!
